Yes, he has anxiety struggles, they're a deep part of his being. That (combined with his half-breed angst) is doubtlessly what makes him rather bitter and antisocial, and causes him to over-rationalize in some circumstances. He used to wear his fears on his sleeve much more when he was a child. He still has them now, but he has developed coping mechanisms/masks like those stated above. (This is also why I chose him for this vent art: fav.me/dbhx160

Anyway, Scald is either a few months older or younger than his two half-brothers; I'm not sure which it is yet but I'm leaning toward younger.

Out of curiosity, what made his parents choose to raise him with the Felsics instead of the Mafics? Β

There's a bit of a story behind him ending up with the Felsics, involving the fact that he had two Felsic half-brothers his age who could help him adapt whereas there was no equivalent in the Mafic territory, and some stuff/drama between Vulcan, Brimstone, and Flare... it'll be told in full eventually.

Maybe character? If there are mental differences between them or their societies have very opposing views it seems like a good idea to raise the child in the society that seems more aligned wit their own ideals.
