hmm, I like it. Th e whole runnng home buisness is a little scarry, because they are rain drops. They'll be running home a lot what with evaporation and cendensation and all that stufff. This is visually stunning. And I can't say much more... I guess I'm a little fried, I'll come back and look deeply into it one of these days.

Nope, just a normal shot. It looks soft because I shot through a car wind shield, I suppose.
Thanks for checking it out.

Very nice man, is this one of the famous in the car shots? I like this a lot!
The distortion of the tree due to the water is lovely, very nice. I don't know what else to really say.

Hey, you gotta new camera!? That's fricken awesome. You know, when you said 'running home' I figured it was something like a person running towards home in the rain, but then the tree really stuck out there, because it didn't fit in! Heh.
Did the camera get wet?! o.O;

Yeppp, got a new film SLR off my roommate. Jensey always said she thought raindrops on a window look like their racing for something. The feel for this made me think of being at home, so they're "Running Home".
Looks like it could have been shot through a bedroom window, to me. I was actually in my car in a parking lot, shooting through the windshield.

Damn... had to wade through all the other comments to make mine.
This is great. If it were in color, it would look like a watercolor painting. I love the abstract feel. The more I think about it... I think I'd like to see it in color more.

as you already know, i like it
it has so much impact, the tree is so dfinite, and the equal space on all sides helps this - although it may have beniffited form a tighter crop, leaving that stuff out from the bottom.
contrast is great through out although seeing the water drops in focus is kind of distracting... i still love it

So simple yet a beautifully unique capture Nate. I love the b/w tones as it gives a true sense of a cold rainy day, overcast and dreary. The tree is almost so perfectly distorted I looked at the thumbnail and thought you had used a PS filter, haha.
Great peice bro.

quiet, expressive, loud, and bold.
Just a few of the things that popped into my head when I saw this. The use of what appears to be a car window splattered with rain to distort the image allows for a stunning enhanced photo. You've got a great blend of contrast between tree, sky, and water. All blending into a pretty damn good shot.
My little brown felt hat goes off to you!
Excellent shot

Twas a rain-splashed window, indeed. I'd like to experiment with it more, if it ever rains again.
I tip my little pink bonnett to you, sir.

Nice job Nate

heh, no spraying. Shot from within my car, looking through the windshield. No worries, I was parked.

This is a technique that I will never grow tired of seeing - the different types of patterns that you can obtain each time are wonderful. I'm not a fan of square cropping - but I do like the cropping job that you've done here - it works well, as the entire shot is balanced - and nothing feels like it's been sacrificed at the same time. Great contrasts and lots of crisp details on the water and tree - what type of film did you shoot with?

Just used plain old Kodak TMAX 400. Next trip to the photo store, I'm picking up some real b&w film, though. A little bit of digital processing can really fix crappy Walgreen's 1-hour developing.
Thanks for the comment! Always means something coming from such a talented photographer.

Looks like a charcoal drawing or something. 'Six Feet Under' comes to mind, but I don't like that show anyways.
I like this though,
Well done.

very cool. someone actually getting some tight effects from nothing but ... ... realilty. great job nate, i like the summetrical framing, and the way the rain abstracts the tree. well done. good call focusing on the rain and not the tree.

WOW, this is stunning~ i love the whole concept of it and in balck and white it's mind blowing in its simplistic beauty. If there is one critical comment i can make is that it might.... i say MIGHT be a bit too uniform if u get what i mean (now i love it like this, there's the amazing contrast and the mystery and the power... wow the POWER in such a barren land....) but some (not me, who loves it like this) may say that nature should not be uniformed (hasten to add that i am not one of these)... BAAAAA~ there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with this *so jealous* it's beautiful and strong adn packs a right punch and *sad face* it makes me feel bad.... OK there, u have it, u got it out of me... *breaks down*

achfoo In reply to twilytt [2004-11-06 07:42:04 +0000 UTC]
I can see what you mean about the uniform concept.. Nothing really jumps out from this picture, but I guess that's just what makes it what it is.. That calming effect of just going home, with no interruptions of sort.
Thanks for keeping me amused while reading this.
