Description What’s with me and Komodo dragons?

I was at the Denver Zoo this weekend and I wandered into the tropical exhibit. And I found the Komodo Dragons. And as I knelt down this one looked at me through the glass. I’m not sure what I did to capture it’s attention but hey!

So I took a few pictures. I liked this one.

I used my EF 70-200 f2.8l IS for this shot.

While the blur might be lamentable to some, this little fella looks so dorky it's not a problem.

Seriously, he looks like a big dork like that

It's a nice image, nice sharp eyes, but it would have been nice to use a smaller aperture in order to put the nose in focus.

For the most part it was an experiment with shallow depth of field. So keeping the entire face of the Komodo Dragon in focus wasn't on my mind at the time

Really a slick shot here Jon, your focus just simply shines here, very well taken!

Thank you! Auto focus is my friend these days. It does a pretty good job for me

It's an interesting shot because you've taken it to a different aspect where the muzzle is blurred, the eyes and cheeks are in focus and then the neck down is blurred again. Very interesting.

Thanks! I was running mostly on instinct at that point.

Hehe..maybe its cause its a dragon and well we don't see those very frequently...

I love this shot. The only thing that bothers me a little here is that I'd like to see more of his "face" in focus a long with the nice sharpness on the eyes...hard to do with that aperture I'm sure, but I love it anyway.

Thank you!

I was mostly running on instinct and reacting to the situation. I'll have to try again and stop down the apperature a couple stops.
