Aroo!

Squeezing my last submission in.
I have now made a ship model for every race

Thanks go out to RCW05 (from EVE-online) for the name suggestion, o/ bro!

and

Komposti reggae radio, BIG UP!

What else:
I think the dual 250mm turrets are bit out of scale (too big).
Plus my linetracer started striking, so 50% of the lines are hand drawn, try to look past that problem.
Discovered that that working on 4gb of RAM, when building stuff like this is a baaad idea...
Also drinking more then 8 energydrinks per day is also a baaad idea.. : /

Bit about the name "manta"

The manta ray (Manta birostris) is the largest species of the rays. The largest known specimen was more than 7.6 metres (25 ft) across, with a weight of about 2,300 kilograms (5,100 lb). It ranges throughout tropical waters of the world, typically around coral reefs. They have the largest brain-to-body ratio of the sharks, rays and skates

When I started building it, I had a catfish in mind. Then because it had wings and started to look ebil, I went for a stingray (goes good with scorpion class etc). But my friend told me it looked like Manta ... and it did : /
I don't know how, but Manta ray is the perfect fix.

Back-story on this one is quite standard though. No secret design contract, no special purpose. Just a big, bad killingmachine. Finished it's trials with minimal problems about a year ago and is now available to pod-pilots.

Oh hell yes, HELL YES! The hull simply screams caldari and looks as if it was designed SPECIFICLY to deflect projectile type attacks just as the russian T-34 was in world war II. Being that the enemies of the caldari use only line-of-fire solid matter (and antimatter) weapons, the design is perect. A bit more detail and some statistics would be nice. Aside from the fact that it looks a bit like a ferox and firetail had a child that turned out to be a kickass cop, its great! Im hoping i get to fly it with my newly aquired BS 5

I'm very glad you like and I hope that means you have voted for it [link]

More info you say?
Well it looks like a killingmachine and is.
Even though caldari, the hull features full armorplating. This ship is meant for a less experienced player having maxed armor and shield even with caldari BS lvl 2 (the lowest you need to fly it). I planned that it would have alot of armor/shield 8 turrets and 8 missile launcher hardpoints in default, but no extra level bonuses to add to missile damage or anything like that. Instead the higher your Caldari bs skill is the more low and med slots you are given... starting with 8 high slots and 3 med 1 low @ bs lvl 2 and having 6 meds and 4 low @ bs5.

What else... the ship itself is fairly simple in design, dronebay in the front-middle section followed by a standard missile system leading up to the comms array/sensors with battlebridge and crew quarters, followed by shield-gen/power-gen/turrets, ending with a FTL drive and emergency thrusters. More turret points on each side of the wings + two pairs of engines per wing. Because of no bonuses to weapons per skill, this ship could be used for what ever turrets needed, starting from lasers and ending with minmatar 1400mm artillery guns. So it's very versatile. Dronebay holds up to 100m3 of drones but it isn't a droneship so you can only use 50m3 of them.

In real life, this ship is built to last. Sporting many aux systems and control centers, thick armor and usual stat-of-the-art shield systems. There's another aux shield system at front at the bow of the ship in case the main system fails, it also serves as a protection for the escape-pods located at the bottom of the ship. The logistics side is a bit weak though. There are docking ports at top of the ship just before the comms/sensor array and brdige... and one other fueling port just before the FTL drive. Most of the everyday goods go through the dronebay. That's that

looks great. i have a strange fondness for ships that look like they are flying backward. if only to give that split second edge while the enemy goes WTF?

Like Zap said from Futurama (after he had slept with Leela) "a split second is all I need"

But really, the backwards ship is just a question of perspective. Many inventions are done off animals... planes look like birds, subs like fishes ... my Manta looks like a manta ray and these fish aren't backward
