Description This is my tribute to the greatest sci-fi series that I know of: "Firefly"

The ship on the picture is a state-of-the-art modified pirate blockade runner cargoship. Belonging to a wealthy farming planet's governor's son, who turned rotten and ran from home at the age of 26, robbing the old man blind...

Haven't got around to texture it yet, knowing myself, I'll prolly ruin it, so I'll post the clean mesh for you all to see, before that happens. (I'm good at knitting mesh)

Some backstory:

Do not think for an instance that the ship is slow, because of it's class name... The turtle stands for the sturdiness of the superstructures external frame, shell type of armor plating and large fins at the side of the ship.

When in space, the fins fold out 30' and with dual engines hidden at the tips of the fins, helps with thrust vectoring, making the ship very agile for a transport. They also help with adding extra speed.

It's sturdy framing and frontal armor also give it higher speed when entering atmosphere, once again helping it outrun it's trackers. When close to ground, the finds fold out 70' and with the dorsal fin, help to slow down the craft very quickly.

The ship is 4 decks high, with the first deck being a slightly bigger cargo bay. The framing and structure however don't allow the cargobay to be accessed from the bottom, like on the firefly mk2.

Armaments list:
1x front-belly mounted dual-railed flackgun
2x aft-side mounted dual-railed flackguns
2x top middle mounted 360' dual-pulse-lasers
potential hardpoints for 10 anti-ship missiles or other misc external equipment.

The ship has one short range shuttle that is located behind the left fin and can be accessed from the cargobay deck.

The ship needs a minimal of 2 crewmen to operate, but the standard posts list as:
The captain
Pilot
Medic
Engineer
3x gunners
and last but not least a cook

When the ship lands the aft engine nozzle bends downwards to land on, while the front fin plating extends out from the hull to act as landing legs. There have been troubles of the ship falling over due to the bad balance of 3 landing points and that was fixed in the later mk2 model of the ship. mk1s however are still defective.

Have you thought of submitting this for Star Citizen's Ship design contest? I think it would have a fighting chance.

have I thought - yes
Will I join - no

I actually designed a ship for them acxtreme.deviantart.com/art/Ja… @ forums.robertsspaceindustries.… but I did it too soon and I did not have the time for interior.

Also to take part I would have to come up with a 100% cryengine compatible model, with optimized polys and materials shaded right + animation etc etc... I do not have the time nor know-how for doing it

That's why I'm not taking part in it.

Darn, I very little knowledge in 3d modeling and such, didn't know there was such compatibility problems. That's too bad though, it would be fantastic.
