Description
Modern and New 52 DC collide As Captain Atom and Power Girl meet the New 52 Earth 2's Supergirl/Powergirl and Superman ( a little unlikely admittedlyI was in the mood to draw the two versions of Power Girl along with their respective close male friends. I still think writers missed out on not making more of Captain Atom's and Power Girl's - apparently under the radar - friendship from their JLI days until the 2010/2011 Generation Lost story kind of revived it ( also Power Girl was the constant that the Captain met on his time jumps in that story ).
As for the New 52 Earth 2's Supergirl/Powergirl ( Supergirl again ? she is looking as though she is wearing the 'S' shield once more ) and Val Zod, the replacement Superman, it has been established these two were quite close friends when they were children before they were sent to Earth. Val Zod seems perfectly pleasant if verging on naive.

In "Earth-2 Worlds End", Powergirl is given the "S" symbol by the Red Tornado, an android that carries the consciousness of Lois Lane, wife of Clark Kent.
Lois and Clark Kent raised the young Kara Zor-L, later Earth-2 Supergirl, and subsequently Earth-0 Powergirl. However, Lois died during the events of the first Apokoliptian invasion under undisclosed circumstances at the Daily Planet and Superman himself would later follow as he sacrificed his life to save his adopted world. The Red Tornado was devoid of emotion until an intervention from General Samuel Lane who, with the help of Dr. Robert Crane transfers the mind of his deceased daughter Lois into the android. Lois, as the Red Tornado, kept a piece of Superman's uniform and presented it to Powergirl during the Second Apokoliptian invasion on Earth-2 in the "Worlds End" title. Thus Powergirl become the new Super(man)girl and worked with Val-Zod the replacement Superman. Powergirl rediscovers her "foster mother" Lois Lane in the body of the Red Tornado android, and bonds with Lois' consciousness with some tender mother-daughter moments.

I have to admit i find it hard to even regard the Earth 2 character as Power Girl when she seems more like Supergirl in a different outfit.

(Confused yet? I read the entire E2WE series and I'm still trying to make sense out of all the events! So many characters and subplots, it was hard to keep track)

Yeah I don't get the 'Super'girl angle. She sort of looses what make her Powergirl.

Agreed, she's pretty much 'Supergirl in white'. I sometimes think she lost what made her Power Girl at the start of the New 52.

That's most of the new 52 characters. Powergirl is supergirl in white. Superman is powered up batman. Wonder Woman is female batman. Batman is batman.

I always wanted to see a Black Superman and now that we currently have a black Captain America(Falcon) anything's possible!

Val is an admitted pacifist, though he's willing to throw down if he has to. If Anthony Mackie wasn't already playing Falcon I think he would be a good pick for a live action Val Zod
