Description This is an image that is part of a elseworlds story i have brewing in my mind, involving the Newgods, Krypton, and a few other characters and is in many ways a reboot as i would have done it.

In this picture is a diplomatic delegation to Krypton, which in my continuity was an Imperial power in its own right and a firm ally of Apokalips before Kryptons destruction. Amazing Grace acts as the primary diplomat, Kalibak who as Darkseids son provides a level of importance to the meeting, and the character Monarch who commands the group.

Monarch in DC's mainstream continuity is of course not a newgod, in my reboot however, he is now Darkseids Warmaster, who many assume to be his third son rather than Captain Atom gone bad for no real reason.

Ages back i had a completely different idea in my head for Monarchs origins, but at it's basic level it would have been as the Darth Vader to Darkseids Emperor. These days i would probably think up something completely different

That's a cool idea, but I always thought that title "Darkseids Warmaster" belonged to Steppenwolf? I mean he did invade Earth 2 before we even saw Kalibak (which IMO was BS since I remember Kalibak better from the cartoons of course). But I can see Monarch kicking his ass in order to secure his place among Darkseid's Elite. And yeah, I missed his introduction in the 90s, only to endure that convoluted nonsense of him warring against the Monitors in Countdown to Final Crisis. Β  But I'm sad that the New Gods hardly gets any more love after the Reboot, I'm not much of a fan of them in the reboot since Orion just shows up in Wonder Woman and simply disappears later on after a different creative team took over. Great job

Yep, Countdown was a mess .

I kind of liked the idea of having Monarch as the 'Darth Vader' to Darkseids 'Emperor', since Darkseid isn't really the sort to dirty his hands with leading troops into battle ( which is why i don't care much for the New 52 version, who keeps getting into brawls ), a being as formidable as Monarch would be a decent choice as a battle leader, and the armour only needs a little altering to make it look more Apokaliptan.

The current New Gods have been altered much like the rest of DC, and it has lost something because of it.

Monarch looks so cool, but is used badly. The leak of what was planned poisoned the well.

I really wish we could get a good Monarch story.

Monarch is pretty striking looking character, but DC never really managed to provide a good reason for Captain Atom becoming Monarch. So instead i thought making him one of Darkseid's more powerful minions seemed a better idea.

Agreed, if DC ever revive the character, i think making him a powerful champion of Apokalips would make more sense.

Very cool, Monarch has cool design but a bit stupid origin.
