Description
Given the curious events both characters have experienced in the last few years, the pair try to catch up.I'm more a DC fan than Marvel, but i was a fan of Adam Warlock and Gamora since the 1991 event story 'The Infinity Gauntlet' introduced me to them ( writer Jim Starlin is pretty much the definitive writer of Adam Warlock/Thanos/Gamora in my opinion ).
Adam Warlock was one of Marvels higher powered ( within 'Thor' level ) characters, originally believing himself to be an artificial creation, he later discovered he was a far older being who had repeatedly gone through various deaths and rebirths resulting in slightly altered appearances with each incarnation ( in a manner that almost makes him Marvels version of Dr Who without the time traveling ). He is also much more intellectual and contemplative than many heroes, with a cunning even arch schemer Thanos respects.
The adopted daughter of Thanos, the formidable alien assassin Gamora was one of Adam Warlocks main companions for years ( from the late 1970's to the mid 2000's ), and seemed quite taken with him ( as Thanos himself pointed out at one point to Gamora ) until eventually the decidedly slow on the uptake Warlock realised his own affections towards her ( seriously it took an age ). Gamora's limits haven't really been placed as far as i know but while not quite as strong as characters like She-Hulk, Gamora has proven able to take down such characters with considerable ease, is versed in a variety of weapons and she can regenerate injuries.
I'll freely admit i now have so much less familiarity with the characters since the 2006 'Annihilation' story seemed to ignore/skip their previous continuity, ( Gamora ditching Adam Warlock when he finally returned her affections seemed a little out of character to me ) and i kind of lost interest so i probably missed out on the explanations in the comics, either that or i missed out on more things that would have annoyed me.
Of course the revised version of Gamora is now set to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and Adam Warlock looks set to be left alone.
I've made up Adam Warlocks outfit, although it looks about right, while i've used one of Gamoras older outfits. I've tried a flatter colour approach with this picture.

It was a weird kinda reboot of the characters. I'm kinda glad cuz without those changes we might not have seen them again, but I preferred them together. Didn't buy her relationship with Nova either. I love Nova, he's in my top 10 favorite Marvel characters, but that didn't feel right.
Very elegant costume for Adam, nicely done

I have to agree it was nice for the characters to get attention, but the way it was done still bothers me.
Thanks, I'm hoping they will give the movie version of Adam Warlock something akin to this outfit, I've always preferred him wearing a cape.

Personally, for Thanos, I preferred Giffen. Starlin's was fine up until Infinity Gauntlet. Afterwards it became the quest towards the reset button and Infinity and beyond !
"Annihilation" not only gave the Titan a Β purpose as a character (rather than being simply Starlin's mouthpiece...) but also a closure. After that I outright REFUSED any future Thanos appearance.

The Infinite Gauntlet/War/Crusade were the highlight stories for me, after that it was never quite as good.
Thanos in Annihilation seemed an oddity to me, aiding an alien to his own universe being like Annihilus kind of went against the role Thanos had carved for himself concerning the maintaining of his own universes balance.
While i thought Annihilus was rather amusing with his ill advised manner of talking to Thanos like some lackey, it just seemed odd that Thanos would aid the creature and i can't even recall why he did. As for the Titans end, i didn't mind him being killed by Drax, but the manner that Drax used to kill Thanos didn't ring true to me.

Since I am going Back on this whole subject.
I will visit Starlin's earlier stuff (aside from Infinity Gauntlet which I am very familiar with ! XD ) to get a better idea... BUT when it comes to the Giffen/DnA take
- Annihilation ? Perfection. From the art, the stakes, the writing, it dusts off nobodies (frigging Starlord ?) and characters that were at a dead end (Thanos, Silver Surfer...) and breathes such a life in them that I grew attached to them.
- Annihilation:Conquest . Same but with a different villain and slightly smaller scale. Best Ultron Ever. THIS hyped me up for the first movie.
- Guardians Of The Galaxy : The first 12 issues ROCK ! Great art! Bonkers team ! It's like Marvel's L.E.G.I.O.N. except with an actually good guy at the helm (unlike the macchiavellian Dox !).... the problems UNFORTUNATELY come with a crappy event called "War of Kings"....Instead of putting Apocalypse in space (which is logical, the 1st has an F4 villain, The 2nd had an Avengers one, so the 3rd big arc should have one of the best if not the greatest X-men foe show his A-game in space ... they pick an extremely shitty one from a run that should have been erased...). After that, while the characterization remains strong, DnA did the exact same mistake as Starlin...bringing Thanos back ! After Annhilation I was DONE ! He met his reward ! But then they kill off Phyla in a moronic manner, axe the badass Drax and strip Thanos of all the fucking development he had since Infinity Gauntlet.... the worst part ? Thanos Imperative is NOT that bad and could have been done with a Thanos from a different reality (that's where it happens anyway !)
Moral of the story ? L.EG.I.ON. DID have problems like somewhat running out of steam at times but in no way did it overuse DC's space tropes.

To me it's Infinity Gauntlet , Annihilation and then Annihilation Conquest.Β
Bear in mind that Thanos, despite claiming to maintain said balance, is at his core a self-centered amoral monster. For all his usual cold demeanor, we're talking about a creature that ravaged his own world out of a) curiosity b) sense of adventure. The reason he "joined" Annihilus is definitely on-par with his character : tired of the usual cycle, he wanted to witness what a radical change would do if the negative zone spread out. Stuff like this to me is more Thanosian than staying put, a bastard like Thanos is not exactly gonna follow on his words (plus, he was ready to turn against Annihilus the second something would displease him as he had a failsafe against the Galactus-bomb ).
The manner he dies rings perfectly to me because... that's how death happens in real life. It shows that for all his powers, knowledge and might , Thanos is but an average joe before death (which , as a thanatophobe, scares me to death). It's less "Drax killed him" and more "Thanos time has come". And bear in mind, I expected said demise to disappoint me , but from Samaritan and on it was the perfect curtains closure.Β

Awesome. Adam's outfit is great. Disney/Marvel today just ruined Jim Starlin's Warlock and Watch. Just hated Annihilation. And did you see the followup in GOTG? Where they killed off Gamora and Warlock. And in Infinity relativity they tried to explain it away. Jim Starlin having to recover his characters from the absolute mess made my Marvel/Disney. I also missed the final Infinity Watch comics, so I have no idea what happened to the gems, or if and how the Watch got disbanded.

I'm not even sure they bothered to explain how the Infinity Watch lost their infinity gems, but I've generally stopped following Marvel since Annihilation, and it feels near impenetrable to me right now so i've missed things.

Very nice I too am a fan of the Stalin stuff of Gamora, Adam, Thanos, Drax and Pip they had such a great dynamic with each other.
As to how they are now while I understand the ditching of most of Stalin's ideas by other writers believe its very common
I enjoyed quite a bit of Annhilation and Dan and Andy's run on Guardians. Don't read the Bendis version though its pretty bad.
