Darkseid appears in Mary Marvel's apartment, Mary makes it clear he's not welcome.This is pretty much how i would have handled Mary Marvel's response to Darkseid offering her power in the Countdown story, i personally feel this would have been genuinely suprising and a very welcome action in that story
A companion to "POW!!!" of sorts in style, it was fun to do.

Well Darkseid does have two sons, the stupid but powerful Kalibak, and Orion, who is an aggressive but heroic warrior.

I know, but I expected that they're so disused that they just atrophied into nothing. That, or Darkseid had them surgically removed to both remove an obvious weak spot and to make sure something like Orion doesn't happen again

um, its totally possible that i'm incorrect, but Mary Marvel in Countdown didn't derive her power from Darkseid.... She derived it from Black Adam.

She gave up the Black Adam power and beat off Eclipso's influence, becoming herself once more. Then right near the end of Countdown, Darkseid offered it back to her, and she accepted it because it made her feel "strong", then she more or less went on a stroppy rampage.

Often wondered why so many heroines pounded themselves silly on a villain's muscles when a swift kick in the family jewels would have cut them down to size.
Probably was against the comics code in the old days. It's still the first thing they teach young women in self defense courses, pop him in the nutsack, scream and run like hell while the perp writhes in agony on the ground.

This actually happened. The villain Prometheus took out the entire JLA, only to be taken out by Catwoman when she kicked him in the nuts.

That's a good point about self defense courses, and Mary Marvel is a young teenager when not being a hero so it would make sense that she might have gone to one.
