Description
Longtime JLI members and friends Karen Starr ( Powergirl ) and Nathaniel Adam ( Captain Atom ) take some time off and enjoy some good weather. It's not as though anyone would notice their absence... Well someone might notice Power Girl was missing eventually, and probably find a ton of photos of her in swimwear posted on the internet by various sources.I have to admit neither character is really making waves in the DCU now, or likely to in the next few years ( I'm hoping that I'm wrong ), with their respective New 52 reboot versions rightly dropping like stones ( which is a shame since Power Girl was featuring all over the place before the New 52 )
I guess the more traditional takes just aren't in favour, but with a more traditional Power Girl having slipped in through the backdoor of the Harley Quinn comics and a Modern Age looking Captain Atom inexplicably reappearing in the background of a panel or two of the Rebirth comic, i'm still sort of hopeful these two will get more attention at some point, but i don't think the interest is there among DC's creatives right now.
I've paired these two characters together since their Justice League International days, they just seemed to me to naturally compliment each other in a way that their canon romantic relations never did, and kind of worked well together in a back and forth manner which really should have been used more.
This picture was a little late, being sketched out in early August, i spent ages adjusting and changing things, at one point i was going to have Harley and Ivy in the background with Vartox, but it seemed to fight for attention a bit too much. In the end i decided to post it as it is.

If i recall right in the comics he started off as a superhero around 28 years old but generally he is around his early/mid 30's. His human form hair went prematurely white after the experiment that gave him his powers, and it tends to make him look older than he is.

She originally started off around 19, but was an active hero for a while ( before Captain Atom gained his powers ), as far as i can tell she seems generally depicted in her late 20's or even early 30's, although her age has rarely if ever been specified.
Of course this only applies to the 1986-2011 versions of the characters.

The 1987-2011 version of Cap could appear human, with the alien Dilustel metal bonded to him on a molecular level he could shift his appearance back and forth at will. Without the metal this is pretty much what he looked like.
Some writers from around the 2000 period seemed to incorrectly think he was nuclear energy in a metal containment suit, while the New 52 version altered everything about the character and made him purely energy.

Beautiful work. I really wish DC would put out a collection of the late 80s Captain Atom comics...

Thanks. It really bugs me that they haven't printed a collection of the series, i mean they could probably ignore the final 4 issues but the rest deserve to be printed again.
That said If i had one complaint about the late 1980's Captain Atom series, it's that Power Girl never got a guest story but somehow Aquaman did .

Yeah, I mean they put out like 2 volumes of the original Charlton Comics Captain Atom, so why can't they do the same for his predecessor?

More good work! Peej looks outstanding and lovely. Capt. A. nicely done without his containment suit.

Probably U.N. sanctioned since she first joined the JLI

With all due respect the beautiful and curvilinear Kara but I think the female audience will find our dear Captain Nathaniel Adam simply handsome shirtless.

I hadn't thought about it, but i guess it does broaden the appeal to the audience.
