Powergirl recognised the striking redhaired amazon Maxima from her brief time as a member of the Justice League, first in line to the throne of Almerac.

"You conceited ass" Maxima cried as Vartox tried to evade a boulder she had hurled at him, " you honestly thought i would let what you did slide, you insufferable cur?"

Powergirl wondered if Vartox had left Maxima at the altar, or did he get Maxima to participate with the pregno-ray ?

"Maxima" Vatox cooed vainly in a manner that he thought would calm her but incited her further " i thought i made it clear to your sister that even though my heart was hers i had responsibilites"

Kara felt that Vartox's excuse was somewhat suspect, and Maxima was clearly unconvinced.

"IMBECILE ! I am a telepath and your own mental guard is down, you were clearly intent on this blonde!"

"Oh for pity's sake, Vartox" Kara added.

The affray continued until Vartox was hurled into a rock, though he was still slightly grinning and trying to justify himself. Having spent nearly half an hour unleashing her irritations on him, but clearly not trying to kill him, Maxima listened with gritted teeth. Kara stood nearby listening and Atlee was in the distance drying herself off, mildly bemused at the whole thing.

"Now Kara is just a friend who once helped ensure my worlds survival, and i will apologise to your sister, i Vartox the Hyperman swear i shall. Now surely we should look at the bigger picture here Maxima" he suddenly sounded earnest.

"But then" Kara thought, "he was always rather good at suddenly sounding sincere".

But regardless of the truth behind his shift, this seemed to calm Maxima down as she dusted herself.

"Fine, i am here officially for diplomatic reasons, and i expect a full public apology to my sister. You!" Maxima pointed imperiously at Kara "I know you, you look familiar"

"Powergirl, Lady Maxima. You fought alongside the Justice League a little while ago"

"Ah you're from Earth, i knew it, and how is Kal-EL ?" Maxima asked.

"Single" Kara gave a wry smile.

"Hmm, i must go back at some point" Maxima looked surprisingly wistful.

Vartox looked a little put out at not being the focus of the women's attention, "I am still here you know!".....

I was intent on introducing Maxima into this story, and i had originally thought of fielding her against Powergirl in a fight that Vartox had placed them into.

Fore those not familiar with Maxima, she is a space princess who was intent on making Superman the father of her children, she began as an adversary of Superman's before becoming an ally, and then later joined the Justice League before returning to her home planet.

But i decided against that, instead having Maxima focus on Vartox, given that Maxima is a powerful telepath there was no way she would let herself be tricked into battle so easily.

The pregnoray is not as bad as it sounds, and is a reference to Vartox's first appearance.

I might have made Vartox just a little bit more sleezy than he actually was, but hey he's a minor character and this is a fanstory.

Kara and Atlee's vacation is coming to it's end and now it's time for me to decide on Powergirl's replacement outift, though before that i'll be covering Lobo Vs Monarch.
