Year: 2010Client: DC Comics/ DC Direct
Media: Pencil, PITT Pen and COPIC marker on Strathmore Drawing paper, then colored with Adobe Photoshop CS2.
This is a statue design for the Covergirls of the DCU statue line from DC Direct, on display for the first time at ToyFair in NYC. I guess it should be available for pre-order soon.
As for the concept... I thought Starfire holding her ridiculously huge head of hair like it's the train of a dress would be fun.

This is why you are one of my all-time favorite artists, sir. Too many artists draw Starfire and fail to bring out her personality, instead relying on her scant outfit and slammin' curves to do their work for them. In your work - in all of your work - you truly bring forth the essence and personality of whatever character you are working with in a way that is always breath-taking. Especially in the world of comics, where female characters are idealized towards sex appeal, your work has always impressed me with the way that you show me a person, a human being (or, in this case, an alien) who I feel I can connect with, long before the sex appeal has time to catch up. The best part? You make these characters even MORE attractive because you show such sensitivity to who they are underneath the skin, and that is why you will always have my highest regard and all of my respect as an artist. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work.
