Description
Year: 2011Client: Imagine FX
Media: Pencil, PITT pen, COPIC warm & cool grey markers, Dr. PH Martin's High Carb India ink, and Winsor & Newton process white paint. The brush is a Scharff Series 3000 Fine Line, #3 size.
Here's a further WIP detail for the new IMAGINE FX cover and tutorial that I just completed. The issue should be out very soon. I'll post the final art (both colored and uncolored) in a few days.

Oh you are coloring by hand...with inks......I thought u were only used to color by photoshop

I use either method.
And I'm not really coloring this by hand, just drawing it. I ended up coloring it in Photoshop.

I will so pick up that issue. Even though Magazines here in the UAE get a huge mark up (shipping cost) Unless Image FX is offerd digitally on the ipad, I will have to check. Usally UK art publications have been better at jumping on to the digital transituion then thier American counterparts. (Like advanced Photoshop, and 3D Aritist).
Still would love to see a Photoshop tutoiral by you on how you color your work.

ok, I was going to check when I went home (I tend not to bring my ipad with me to work, since I work in a dusty construction site), but thanks for doing that for me! You are beyond nice. Now if I ever meet you at a con I will buy you a beer.
Also on a side note, the current Charles Vess issue looks interesting so I will probably be getting that tonight. the FX people should be giving you a finer's fee)

I never could get the hang of paintbrushes...I tend to have a heavy touch even with a pencil...( tend to snap 0.5 lead a lot

Adam is it a full non digital tutorial?
if so that'd be awesome. I just got the Drew struzan DVD for Christmas, it is a really good technique considering I am partially color blind. it plays more toward values. which I really like.

No, actually because of the space limitations, I had to pick something to focus on. Since it's for a magazine about digital graphic design, I pretty much focus on digitally coloring this piece.
I think I'll do a tutorial her on DA on how I did the physical part of the art, to explain the stuff I had to breeze over.
