As it stands this is the best of your cockpit views thus far. It has the realistic feel accustomed with spacesimulaters like Xwing Alliance or Wingcommander.

The addition of the more realistic lights and reflections, which are certainly very important, the layout looks very clean and a logical step in starfighter design.

If there is a point that could have been better then that would be that it would have been interesting to see how she was controlled. Single joystick or some kind of streering wheel like in the TIE cockpit you designed. But that is a small thing. Also some kind of text on the buttons would have been fun.

All in all a great design and very well done

Hey Adam,
i'd like to use your cockpit pic to design our next year StarWars summercamp invitation-flyer.
Would you allow me to copy it?

Hey man are you still active? I would love to use this in my game design uni project. Could you get back to me? All I can offer you is credit but this is literally perfect for what I need.

This is amazing...simply glorious. I love sci-fi, Star Wars isn't my favorite, but it's pretty damn high on my list. This is amazing.

Another excellent cockpit design. The target trackers, power level adjusters, and radar systems remind me of the old X-Wing and Tie Fighter games, and that wonderful feeling of nostalgia right along with them. You've really done a great job of capturing the feel of a combat fighter. ^^

Thanks The old SW simulators were a great inspiration for me. It's been a few years since I played a game with X-wing in it and I'm starting to miss it.

They really need to bring the old fighter simulators back. I'd be on board for it. Who knows, maybe Disney will start making use of their newfound ownership and producing things the way they ought to have been. ^^

AdamKop In reply to ArdanBlade [2012-11-09 18:26:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's really mind-boggling to me why Lucasarts just abandoned all the simulators. Battlefront 3 was in the making and got abandoned and Rogue Squadron compilation was on the way ... It's really weird, because all of the games sold well and the new ones were just poor. I had some fun with the DS games, but they felt more like spin-offs, because the most fun parts were the ship battles
Space sims are a big opportunity today, because with proper online they can be really massive - having a hub where you could choose your ships, equipment and wingmen and then get on some big co-op battles.

Oh, how I would love to see starfighter combat simulators! The idea of teams playing as squadrons of Tie Fighters, flying up against X-Wings in smaller groups, is just mind-boggling!

It would be even better if there were mission objectives, like taking out a Star Destroyer, or fighting the Battle of Endor. I would play that game to death!

AdamKop In reply to ArdanBlade [2012-11-09 20:05:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that's why I loved Rogue Squadron 3 Rebel Strike - it had a full version of RS2 on the disc as a multiplayer mode. Save for a few missed on-foot missions, the game was brilliant and had the most epic battles ever

I agree - and the color scheme feels more "Incom" than the mostly-red displays (I thought mostly reds were what we had in the TIE cockpits, though it could be my bad memory...)

In any case it screams awesome - I could almost hear the background cockpit instrumentation with this one!

Following the SW universe rules, I have to say that I like the way this looks. The biggest drawback (assuming that this is a gun-fighter like the X-wing and TIE) is the lack of vision afforded by the cockpit. That said, the SW universe doesn't really represent space combat accurately, it's there to look good. And this DEFINITELY looks brilliant

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamKop In reply to Passin [2012-10-28 20:41:07 +0000 UTC]

Well the TIE Fighters for example had a lot of focus on displays (Vader's X1 being a prime example) so I decided to make something that would be even more automated.

Pokermind [2012-10-28 13:09:16 +0000 UTC]

I love it and agree with ~Arsanthania on emotional content on importance of instrumentation. On that line where is the navigation screen with icon showing position and sensor data? Perhaps two screens one X Y and the other X Z showing planet with a red cross for ship's position.

I especially liked you light and shadow work in this art, one knows without seeing it the star is about a point off the port bow, but not dead ahead.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamKop In reply to Pokermind [2012-10-28 20:39:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks I will be doing a cockpit with screens focusing more on location, because it will be for a bomber - there will be a 3D map and a camera view. I just have to think of their design.
I'm glad that you like the lighting - it took me quite some post-processing work to get it right

Arsanthania [2012-10-28 07:37:29 +0000 UTC]

I like how little of the outside is visible from the cockpit-It shows the dependence on equipment and sensors over a pilot's sight, which can be wrong and incorrect in the vast depths of space.

Passin In reply to Arsanthania [2012-10-28 17:34:53 +0000 UTC]

Technically, if you think about it, the idea of gun fighters in space is pretty useless anyway

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

AdamKop In reply to Arsanthania [2012-10-28 09:35:37 +0000 UTC]

Yep I wanted to put more emphasis on the equipment this time. There is still a lot of empty space, but that's beause it's supposed to be more advanced
