Also, I've been enjoying that Cubic Explorer on my 8 machine! Though I haven't used it much, I certainly tried it. I even tried it on my 7 machine, but it crashed a couple times on a shortcut.

Anything new in the past week?

Well, the mercury contactor relay came in Monday and I was able to get the upstairs air compressor unit working for the A/C.
My mom helped me coat my building with polyurethane Tuesday, (2 gallons, still need 2 more gallons to finish the coat though).
I got paid for LED Luna. ...

In other news:
The ozonator for the hot tub failed again. (At least my fix with the CFL circuit worked for several months, but I'll see about a full replacement this time).
The headlight for my 2011 Corolla won't turn on properly, and I know it's an electrical problem, (probably a day/night/light sensor or relay), because the high beams turn on all 4 headlamps!

How about your week? ^^

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-02 04:35:40 +0000 UTC]

Mercury contactor? You workin' for NASA?

But awesome! We need to do something about our A/C, it's years old and my granddad got some cheap guy who did things wrong. It's okay, but it could be so much more efficient.

....O.O

....

CONGRATULATIONS MAN, HUZZAH
I'm really glad to hear that Also hopefully it was a good enough price for ya.

Jelly, I wish we had a hot tub. Though it sucks that yours is having problems. Does the ozonator replace the need for the chemicals people usually put to keep their hot tubs clean?

Well, my week's been okay. Working on stuff. Though I recently found out I screwed up Friday. @.@
I was uploading new product data to a client's site, and I accidentally had a setting ticked off to clear the media gallery.

So you know how products have images, and that little image gallery/strip below the product image? Well I blew all that up @_@
But, it was done Friday, and it took until today for someone to bring it up. Luckily we fixed 99% of their products, but we don't have the data for their newest 80+ products.
And their stupid hosting service does daily/weekly backups...THAT OVERWRITE. So basically your backup is only of the previous day essentially. Which means that since this was done friday, it's been way past the point of recovery.

Anywho, my stuff is fixable and I didn't get into too much trouble, thank heavens.
Though your week sounds rough, everything going screwy. I hope that all works itself out soon.

Well at least you guys sound all healthy! (or haven't complained about anything like that) That's a good week indicator at least

I couldn't remember whether I've shown you this yet or not: fav.me/d5x0sfi I've learned my lesson, mercury contactors. (This was by far our worst hot tub problem... so far ) It'll likely outlive the compressor, (and I'd certainly retrieve it). Had to use a slave relay b/c the coil voltage was different like on the hot tub, but whateves.

I've heard not-so-good things about the people that homeowner's appliance insurance uses. Don't recall the specific name of the insurance.

YAY! Well, if covered the cost of making her, but not really development. That's okay though. My next big move is to get a decent camera with separate mic input and make tutorials!

As you can see, it does require maintenance. Changed the water last week too, which is done every 6 months. And mostly, though some general chemicals are still needed, like bromine. Mainly it keeps the algae out for us, and that's why we use it!

Oooo... I can see how tha'd ruin a day. That's pretty sorry the backup is so short. They could at least keep one month, fortnight, or week old backup. It's been forever since I backed up, but it stays pretty static. ^^

Well we're human after all. But I guess it shouldn't have to warn you that you're about to clear the entire media gallery, right? (If only you had programmed it, you probably wouldn't have had that problem. )

Stuff finds a way of working out. But it does cut into my paid plush making time. Still have a bathroom faucet to change.

Yes, and I thank the Lord for that daily.  My dad had a cold, but he seemed to get over it fairly quick, and he'll be coming home Friday!

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-02 06:11:03 +0000 UTC]

Aww really? Poop. I was hoping you at least got something in the ballpark of your original price. But progess has been made, and someone out there is incredibly happy. And if they aren't, I will break in and smuggle Woona back to safety (i.e. my house )
Tutorials sound fun though. Maybe I can do something with the yarn I have lying around.

And yeah, I mean a week would have been handy even. But yeah, most big names do the month+ guarantees.
Also nah, it was totally my fault this time, not a program's. I had been importing images for another client, and I didn't check the settings when I moved on. Live and learn right? HANGING ON THE EDGE OF TOMORROW /sonicadventure
(though thanks for your vote of confidence )

Our bathroom sink faucet is like, not connected to the sink anymore. You try to twist the handle, and the whole faucet turns with it that needs to get fixed.

Also yay for healthy times! Glad to hear your dad is doing better.

Fortunately, I definitely think he'll be happy and that she's going to a good home at least.
Heh, I have a few bags of old yarn myself.

Sonic SatAM. ... Would've loved to see the rest of that series.
No probs!

Dude, you know, it's probably as simple as tightening a nut (either a small nut if it uses copper lines directly like the ones I'm replacing or a larger hand tightened nut if it's the newer stuff). Reminds me of this past Sunday, a stall was "out of order" at the church building, and come to find out the flush handle nut just came off.

Thankies! Glad it sounds like you're healthy as well I hope!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-02 07:13:08 +0000 UTC]

Well that's good. Also we should weave ourselves a portal between dimensions!

And oh gosh yes, SatAM was such a cliffhanging tease! (like Reboot!)
ALTHOUGH they did continue it in the Archie comics I believe. (Archie the brand, not the character)
I've been meaning to read it. (Archie has like 2 or 3 sonic comic continuities, so it's one of them)

Probably, I'll have to look at it. It'd be nice if it was just screwed down to the sink, rather than whatever nut thing fastens it to the sink now.
Stupid 1880's architecture

And yup, the worst "health problem" I have is my horrible sleep schedule as of late ;; Also note I'm an hour ahead of you. In case that means anything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

adamlhumphreys In reply to naan21 [2014-10-02 18:53:54 +0000 UTC]

Or just grab one from somewhere else:

O, rly!? I thought the very reason they canceled the series is because the story was going in a direction different from the comic! Or was that just the main comic?

Well, every sink I've seen thus far has been screwed down in some fashion. But yeah, can't say for anything in before 1997, but I doubt they used bailing wire.

Ooo... Yes, that's pretty late man! Careful, don't let it turn into a real health problem, because it can.

O_O *tries to latch onto the box before it disappears*

Also, I was aware of no such thing. When I looked into it, it was because Fox had their entire upper staff changed, and the upper staff pulled Power Rangers into the timeslot, among other issues. Basically they "Legend of Korra"'d the series into submission. If more adults were into cartoons like they were now, I'm sure it'd be a different story.
Although if the comic diverges from the show, that I have to look into. Though even if it did, it'd still be a treat to read, get my old favorite characters back.

Yeah, ours is like, "mounted" on the wall, and it has two table legs holding it up. It used to be metal legs that screwed into it, but I think something happened to one, so now it's a wooden rod proping it up. I'll have to take a photo for ya sometime.

Well it's not right as of now. And plus I'm used to my schedule having ups and downs. If I force myself to sleep, that is usually a hard reset to my sleep schedule. It's what I did to prepare for going to work. Went from 2-3AM nights to 11PM nights in 2 days

But no worries, i'll keep it in check

Well, based on the last airing episode, it looked like Snively was going to continue, and possibly rise to a certain degree of power where Robotnik flew the coop, probably suspecting Snively's demise.
< "Did somebody say my name?"
But for all we know, there're could've been 15 different factors and reasons why they decided to pull it.

Sorry, but it sounds like you're talking about the sink, (which sounds like it really needs attention BTW).  I was only talking about the faucet. I'm not replacing any sinks. (Mom bought 5 stupid light fixtures today too out of the blue, and for her big idea to put up more, knowing good and well there's only one mount for each of the 3 existing fixtures. I'm not gonna touch 'em. ) ... Photo would be neat.

That's what I'm trying to do, at least 12:00am to 1:00am! Sometimes I get some pretty wild dreams too.

Good!

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-03 12:12:04 +0000 UTC]

yeah, and I think Snively was going to take over and he had a guest in the shadows. Who I am pretty sure was Nagus.

I was talking about the sink that the faucet is attached to yes
Both are oddities.

Also that's a lot of lights! I'll provide photo's after work today.

Also also I fixed my sleeping problem, went to bed at 8PM last night

adamlhumphreys In reply to naan21 [2014-10-03 16:23:21 +0000 UTC]

Ahh.

Ooo, ok then. ^^

I'd only replace one fixture per fixture. I'm not tearing through the sheetrock to drill holes for wires and install new light fixture mounts.

That'd do it! I got up at 9:45 today, so that was awesome!

Here we go, two photos: 1drv.ms/1BEnxqj

1) The first one is a front view, we put a little trash can under the sink. You can see it's pretty much got two front legs, and the rest of it is attached to the wall. To the left is the radiator. Our house has radiators and pipes going around, it's how we heat our house in the winter (with hot water).

2) Top view of the sink. The faucet to the left is the hot water, and the loose one. Though it was tight when I turned it so maybe my dad fixed it when I wasn't around.

adamlhumphreys In reply to naan21 [2014-10-05 03:54:22 +0000 UTC]

Duuude. The pipes run along the outside of the wall. That's so old school. ... ! That's how I have the PEX pipe in my shop, running along the outside of the wall for easy access. And the shower wall is completely open for access and I can install shelves there someday, which is why I used 2x6s. But having the hot and cold water on completely separate faucets, that's pretty novel. And a classic drain plug! It seems they still work though, and that's what counts.

I have to say, the radiator is awesome. I honestly think that's probably one of the more efficient ways of heating a house myself. We only have electrical, and used to use our central heating, but now we use multiple quartz floor units which are more efficient. Unfortunately the blower units of our HVAC are in the attic, which is equally stupid during the summer.

That's well possible, and I figured it would've been the loose one judging from the base ring.

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-13 01:39:58 +0000 UTC]

Yup, that's my house for ya, old school
I'll take a few more pictures some time. I have a feeling you'll like our basement.
We have an old oil tank (huge) that hasn't been in use for a few years.
And pipes. We have a few of those along the walls.
Also wait, having hot and cold faucets is novel? When? WHY HASN'T THIS CENTURY INFORMED ME OF THAT?
Oh, wait. two FAUCETS, not the two knobby things. Okay yeah I can see where that is weird now

As for the radiators, they are pretty good at what they do! Though I have heard about heated floors, and those sound spiffy.
We have central air, with the thing living in the basement and a big fan out back. The stupid piping for the air vents is derp-tarded.
And, the big intake vent in the house was put in the floor. I don't know much about HVAC, but me and my stepdad agree it's stupid.

I think it's sort of fixed. It was solid but after a little bit of use over the past few days is a little loose.
Maybe we just need to adhere it in place? Though I have a feeling that's an awfully crude solution.

adamlhumphreys In reply to naan21 [2014-10-13 06:50:35 +0000 UTC]

Don't feel obligated, but that would be cool!

Yes, two knobby things for one faucet is good. I prefer it over the problems one can have with hot and cold via one knobby thing for sure.

I imagine so! Yeah, never had heated floors. Reminds me, I need to skirt my building to prevent cold wind from passing under my building and cooling the floor.
Having the unit in the basement sounds good, but derped air vent tubes sound wonky, and the intake on the floor definitely sound stupid, (though easily accessible I imagine).

Adhearing would work, and I even used a thin bit of silicon around the small faucet in my shop, but that's not what's holding it. I'd suggest either a rubber gasket or a spring/lock washer (if you could find one that big).

I know, my customized screenshot was much nicer, and still legible.  The real classic theme however is actually much more efficient, ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=e77JpO…). (Notice how the themed window frames have lag, and the description goes into details.) Yay functionality, and down with regressive themed windows!! Also, other Windows 8 fixes I found were:
- Getting the Windows XP style Alt-Tab icons back, (since it's faster for the brain to process small, defining icons than white screenshots that look virtually the same at a glance).
- Disabling the unnecessary "Lock Screen" to prevent an extra grabbing of the mouse to click the screen to simply log on.
- I made a bat file that literally shuts down the computer and OS rather than stick it into hibernate mode via "Shut Down." (Microsoft didn't make that "gotcha" very obvious. )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-01 03:54:30 +0000 UTC]

I thought it was going to be like where you kill the theme service, and it just makes everything win XP style grey bars/windows

Also maybe it's my 8.1 install, but I have the ALT+TAB icons, and I don't need to click a mouse to get the the lock screen.

Also also what are you talking about? My shutdown shuts down XD It only hibernates if I leave it closed for 3 hours while on (which is how my power settings are set up)

Maybe this is why I miss so many problems. MSFT loves me, neener neener neener

(XD Sorry, being silly.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

adamlhumphreys In reply to naan21 [2014-10-01 06:10:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, I tried that, but it didn't work as well as I'd hoped. Luckily an unintended consequence was the window borders are now small instead of bulky.

8.1 is what I have! Lucky. (Interestingly, my alt-tab window is classically styled too. ) (Are they icons only?)

Have you ever had to change a BIOS setting? (You might be able to, but my laptop had a requirement that the system be actually shut down.) Here's a better question, does Windows 8 really start up faster?  www.howtohaven.com/system/how-…

Or perhaps it's because those of us who are picky and want things "just so" enough that it becomes a hazard. (Had to change a bios setting to get the stupid Windows 8 watermark off my desktop.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-01 13:11:53 +0000 UTC]

My ALT+TAB has both thumbnail and icon, it looks like this: www.umpcportal.com/wp-content/…

Also that's crazy, the watermark should only be in development builds or unlicensed copies! I never had that when I installed Win 8.1 myself. And BIOS setting? This sounds like registry business.

Not saying you didn't have to do BIOS things, it's just that you went from problems I can fathom (spacing and theming) to specific settings things that sound like they work in ways they shouldn't (watermark and shutdown)

Another thing is that guide is a bit weird, in 8.1 you can right click the start button, and there is a handy menu of tools, including shutdown options. It's like the start menu in rightclick form (well some of the start menu, not the programs list+search)

Speaking of search you can do Win+W I think, and it opens a search box to the right of your desktop. Also in the metro screen you don't have to click, you should be able to just type into the aether and the search will appear and capture it.

That's been my experience with Win8.1. It seems this is a "Your mileage may vary" option. Maybe it's because I installed mine from scratch rather than had it factory installed? Or did you upgrade from 8 -> 8.1? I'm not 100% sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

adamlhumphreys In reply to naan21 [2014-10-02 03:49:48 +0000 UTC]

Ohh. Well that's normal.

That's what I thought, but I googled it and the solution was enabling some secure boot thing in the BIOS (only if it was supported by the BIOS, otherwise there wouldn't be a problem).

I'd be more lost if I couldn't at least right click on the used to be start menu, (of course they could've made right click bring up the whole normal start menu for that matter ).

Well, I thought I had tried simply typing after bringing up the metro screen, but it didn't seem to respond until I clicked the search field, so I might try again.

Yes, I probably got a reject "refurb" 8.1 copy. I don't have any disc, otherwise I would've installed from scratch whether it came preinstalled or not!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

naan21 In reply to adamlhumphreys [2014-10-02 03:59:07 +0000 UTC]

That's really weird that search isn't doing that for you, I just Win'd into the metro screen and started typing and it brought up and filled in the search box.
Also that's lamesauce

Well, one of these days! Bleck. Windows y u so crazy.

Yes, especially considering that should be a perk to getting something refurbished as I've seen with some desktops on what used to be buy.com. (But they were machines that used the funky BTX form factor. ) I miss the good'ol days when things came with at least the OS disc!

Ugh, I know. Heck, I had to burn my own OS disc for this one. You know, maybe you could burn a disc and install fresh on top? Maybe you can reuse that license key since it's on the same hardware. I dunno.
