Description
Finally got enough of a break in the schedule to finish up this sketch with some colors. This scene is hopefully pretty identifiable to anyone who read The Deathly Hallows, but for everyone else, Harry here is looking down through the ice to a submerged sword. Kind of an interesting visual challenge; I don't feel it works 100%, but I'm happy with it for the moment.HP copyright of JK Rowling
edit: reworked it a bit to really get a sense of looking through the ice. lost some of the warmth on the face, but I think its an improvement in terms of storytelling.
edit 2: reworked it again, used an ice texture and decided I couldn't live without the warmer, clear face.
edit 3: More tinkering, I really need to make up my mind.
edit 4: Some color and value adjustments

Wow, thanks for an great critique. Its funny, a lot of the things you liked came about as a result of some critiques of earlier versions on some different forums, like the hands pressed against the ice.
I was aware of the age thing as I made it, I think I was reacting a little against the teen-beat cover models who star in the current movies. So I went for innocence over accuracy (which sounds like a lame defense, I know). I intended it to be subtle, so if it bugs people, I guess its something that legitimately needs fixing. Anyway, thanks again,
Adam

I definitely get the innocence vibe from your Harry. I only found it distracting because I know the scene in the book and went "wait, shouldn't he be older?" not because it doesn't work visually or is incongruous with the rest of the picture. But to be honest, I think you could make the glasses smaller/age him slightly and you wouldn't run any risk of making him "teen-beat cover model" like. Your style is specific enough, the emotion on his face has the right quality to it, and the drawing as a whole has such great integrity that it would still be your Harry and not too much like the actors. But at the end of the day, it's your drawing and you should make it how you like it. I think it's amazing overall and stunning as is.

Oh, its not a bad idea; but unfortunately that the ship has sailed for this particular piece. I do work in layers, but I compress as I go, and the glasses are painted into the whole face and background at this point. C'est la vie.

You just know Harry is fighting the temptation of lifting it up high and yelling "I HAVE THE POWER!"...

Haven't found any more scenes from the series by you (would love to see more), but your style would lend itself to an incredible animated version. You really captured a moment here.

Thanks, man, glad you like it. The only other HP piece I have is a paint sketch of Ginny; I'd like to do more, but unfortunately fan art doesn't pay any bills.

I love this! The viewpoint is what interested me the most. I think it was a great idea to have the picture look up through the ice. Great work.

Thanks. I used a photo texture for that; usually hard to mesh with my style, but seems to work here.

Thanks. I'm going to point out for the record here that I looked really young at 17 too (didn't get my first whisker until 19 or so). Maybe Harry's just a late bloomer?
(just kidding, I've been hearing a lot about the age)
