Description This is a sketch of two characters from the Star Wars RPG I run. Afree Kelbourne is a Chev Jedi PC played by my wife, and Xun Liu is a human Jedi NPC. The game takes place during the Jedi Purge and the Dark Times after Episode III, and these two managed to find love and marry in the midst of the madness.

For a longer story about them, read the blog entry here: [link]

Very nice picture. Clothes aren't terribly starwarsy but love linework and poses to death.

I rather liked this picture, but something about the massive size of the man's lightsaber handle strikes me as odd. Was it originally the weapon of another Jedi, or does he simply employ a style where wrapping your hands completely around the pommel is unnecessary? I ask out of simple curiousity, my friend, let me assure you.

It got oversized as I was drawing it. Properly scaling a lightsaber in drawing is more difficult than you'd think. Their handles tend to be large enough to accommodate a 2-handed grip, which can start looking really big if it's only held in one hand as you see here. This one probably got a touch long, though I don't think it's overly thick... maybe at the base where the Anakin/Luke ep. IV style handgrip is, but I think it's length over girth that throws it off.

Ah. Yeah, I know the difficulty in drawing an accurate lightsaber- but mine always came out too small as time went on. That's why I never posted any of my less than mediocre works here. Oh well. Thank you for answering my question, friend, and I hope you have a pleasant day.

I hope so, too! Thanks for being interested enough in my stuff to write. I appreciate the dialogue.

Hey i love this picture. What do you ink with? Brush or Pens

AdamWithers In reply to MrDragonComics [2009-01-14 22:12:30 +0000 UTC]

Usually I don't. And I didn't ink this one either. I just have really tight, clean pencil lines and run a levels once it's scanned to make my whites white and blacks black.

Hey, my friend's kind of new to star wars, and she's looking for an RP...could you give me a link? Or is it a group (and if so, she's a good writer and puts a lot of thought into her work, so would you mind her coming in?)

I do all my RP'ing in home groups. The old-fashioned, sit around the table and roll dice kind. If she wants to strike up an online SW game, I'd suggest the message boards at the official Star Wars RPG site [link] They've got a lot of nice people happy to point you to places you can go and play.

I love the guys hair, it looks very similar to McNivens style of drawing hair.

High praise indeed. I'm a big McNiven fan, and particularly the way he does hair. I'm also a big Travis Charest fan, and that's where even McNiven got a lot of his influence. In fact, you can trace a lot of it back to paintings by Mucha, which inspired the lot of us.

McNiven is my favorite artist but I'm sad to say I've never heard of the other two I'll have to go look them up.

AdamWithers In reply to DragonRider91 [2007-12-23 19:15:24 +0000 UTC]

Do it! You'll be glad you did. Charest is one of the greatest comic artists not doing anything today and Mucha is just a classic.

You're welcome. I'm happy to spread the love. I highly reccomend the WildCATs TPBs he's done. Look for them - they're amazing.
