Description
A simple doodle that grew and grew into a time-suckingly-large project. Still, it was a lot of fun.I'm a huge fan of the New Jedi Order series, and love the Vong as a group of villains - their wild living armor and weapons make for some great visuals. Problem is, I've virtually never seen them depicted as awesomely as I imagined them while reading. This was my attempt to rectify that.
Also, the new Legacy novel series blows hard, and was such a horrific dissapointment that it's nice to look back on the NJO and remember my hope for how things could have been. As a bonus, Luke Skywalker is easily one of my favorite characters in all fiction, so you can't go wrong, there.

Awesome sketch of the Grand Master at work. You've captured his age nicely, while still making him look as powerful as he was at that time. The Vong look truly impressive, too. I think I like the line art better than the color; some of the details get kinda lost in the darker image (tho the colors do fit the scene in the final piece).

Thanks a lot. And yeah, it can be hard to keep all the detail from lineart to color. I thought the moodiness was more important than all the little stuff, but that's why I posted both pictures!

That is awesome--it showcases both classic-looking Luke and the complex, organic look of the Yuuzhan Vong with skillful lines and a real sense of movement and threat, especially with that amphistaff curving around behind him.

I love your version of the vong. And you are very right. They never seemed to be portrayed in pictures like they were written. I also agree that NJO was way better than legacy of the force. I haven't read the new stuff yet because that was such a let down. I like how you drew Luke. Suitably older and not super bulky. Wonderful work

Thanks very much. Nice praise from a fellow NJO fan. I'll say this, though - have you seen the new Star Wars Invasion miniseries? That artist is doing a really nice job with the Vong. Definitely worth a pick-up.
