Description
Color commission for a friend who's picking up at this weekend's Detroit Fanfare Con.Prowl is my favorite Transformer (immediately followed by the Lamborghini Bros. Sideswipe and Sunstreaker). Imagine my glee when I was commissioned to draw him, and then the guy liked the ink so much he upgraded to this. He wanted marker, but I was so psyched to do this I told him I'd do full color for the same price.
I always love the smart, tactical lieutenant characters. Never the leaders - always the "brains behind the curtain" kind of guys. Prowl is like the textbook definition of the ultimate lieutenant character, and might be what shaped the love of that archetype for me.
Close behind is the witty, sarcastic comic relief character (not the idiot comic relief character, who annoys the piss out of me - suck it, Michaelangelo!). When you combine the two into one guy, like with Donatello, the new Tigra, or Tim Drake, I'm in heaven.

Awesome. Awesome. This has to be one of the very best renditions of Prowl I have seen so far! He looks so cool... professional with a subtle attitude. Everything about this picture is stunning. I love it.
I also love what you said about Prowl in your description of the work. He's one of my favorite Bots, too, but so many fans make him out to be an OCD bot the glitches out every time things aren't perfectly logical. So, thank-you for your respect of him.

I think I like your description of the sarcastic comic relief character better than the drawing. You nailed it with Prowl and your other 3 examples, though I do think Casey Jones played this part well in the first TMNT movie.

This is great. I also remember liking Prowl in Transformers. I remember watching the cartoon movie. Prime gets killed, yeah well "meh" but gunning down Prowl, that was stinged a bit.

Thank my wife for the background. I ran into a snag with how I was doing the shading on the figure and she suggested the grid-over-starfield thing from the intro to the old G1 cartoon. I put one together and damned if she wasn't EXACTLY RIGHT.
That's why I married her - she saves my butt every time.

Yeah, I thought of that first actually. The basic pose, standing on an impact plane of his name. The whole grid background came after I messed up with the lighting and found I needed a REAL background. Oops.
