The idea itself is fun enough, but it's your mastery of technique that really sells this--somehow the phonebooth's tilt, Sauron's reaction lines, and the Doctor's casual-looking toss just add up to ridiculous delight.

Very clever. Except that Ramona slipped and fell, so now he's got to (Episode 2) try to warn his former self and when that fails (Episode 3) go back to prevent the forging of the One Ring, and blowing that (Episode 4) he manages to catch her JUST before she SPLATS into the Samath Naur.

No it wouldn't - just as our hero was tossing the Precious into the abyss, he would stagger in amazement as the WHOLE MOUNT DOOM would turn out to be yet another TARDIS, with the Master/Missy (depending on which one was there at the time - you know, all wibbly wobbly and stuff) standing at it's heart with hands wide apart, going "Come to Papa/Momma!"
Come now, have a sense of adventure!
