So I'll...um...just leave this here...
There is no excuse for this, except my intense freaking out during the wait for the Doctor Who season finale this weekend! ^__^;;; Had to paint something to relieve the stress before I imploded. I love Eleven to death (augh) and never, ever intended this, nor do I ever want to see it happen, but it just sort of...threw itself onto the canvas and now I feel better.
[Edit: AND SO two weeks after I paint this Matt Smith announces that he's leaving Doctor Who. We'll see his Doctor regenerate this Christmas! *crying forever*]

So a theory on that point.
That MASSIVE explosion was the Doctor regenerating from his first FULL cycle of regenerations (1-12, 13 incarnations total). Then the ACTUAL change from Matt to Peter was that quick little one. If everyone will recall correctly, the Doctor's original regenerations were very subtle, but as time went on, his regenerations became increasingly violent. Until David Tennant's second regeneration which SHOULD have been his last. So the consequence of a brand new regeneration cycle meant that he had to regenerate FROM that original cycle into the new one. The whole new cycle of regenerations will all start subtle, and then become more violent as time goes on.
In conclusion: I think a lot, but not too much.

Sorry, but one regeneration cycle includes 12 regenerations, which makes 13 incarnations. Matt Smith's Eleventh Dr. was actually Twelfth, because there was the War Dr.. BUT the Dr. had used all 12 regenerations, because the Tenth Dr. used one to heal himself.
So in The Time of the Doctor the Dr. would've really died if the Time Lords didn't give him the new cycle. But usually the last incarnation in the first cycle is Thirteenth.
So the current Dr. Peter Capaldi (known as the Twelfth Dr.) is actually Thirteenth incarnation and the firsth of the second cycle, that usually is Fourteenth.

I was kind of thinking about how he could've been able to regenerate more than 13 times. I think it might have something to do with River giving her regenerations to him.

it was a good 4-ish years with him. everyone loves Tennant(he's not bad, just not my favorite), but 11 was my doctor, i'll miss him.

Only I became a Whovian a little too late! The Eleventh Doctor was immediately my favorite. I wish he'd stayed on one more year until I settled into the regeneration concept. I hope Matt will reprise the role whenever the show calls for it.
