Description Another WIP in the sketch phase, and another contest. This time for Muramasa: The Demon Blade which comes out next month. Considering the game has quite possible the most beautiful recreation of one of Hokusai's most famous paintings, I decided to use that as my base, hopefully it came across.

There is still some work left on this sketch, things to fix, cleaning, etc. I think I've been overworking myself this month, haha.

Edit_1: Corrected a number of things, and inked the sketch.

Edit_2: Added base colors, and began working on details.

Edit_3: More details. That ocean took forever! I'm not even sure I'm satisfied with it yet. ><

I liked the general lines to the waves and the girl almost in the middle

However from closer observation, from the left, there looks to be a tentacle...of what?... in the middle of the watery chaos for your female warrrior for this picture...

The thing is, I only see a general profile sketch of of girl. Also the front angle of the boat on the right is not correct. In the position of the graphic is would be 10 degrees more left.

The thing is that the potential of your female character really does not connect with th foreground you intended of your main character. The female character in your drawing does not show much expression other than a profile. Is she just sitting in a hurricane or tulmultitude of water? The drawing is very one-deminsional

I suppose this has been somewhat of a failure thus far then. The basic idea was that she was oblivious to her surroundings, more or less, as she chatted away with the demon(the floating wisp). The tentacle is of a Kraken, sneaking up on her.

I do realize she's not speaking in this scan, as I pretty much just slapped an eye on there and called it a face(haha), so that's one thing to tweak. I'm rather at a loss on how to sell the illusion though, if this failed. I really wanted her to seem calm, and overall oblivious to the chaos as danger approached, like it doesn't really concern her. =/

Hmm... I would have probably allowed her to face forward and brought the demon to look more in front and down. She can still carry on a conversation, focus on boating and still be unaware of the kraken.

However, I do like her outfit and the boat, and there was a lot of detail in the waves.

It is not a failure, but you can always improve upon it.

Hmm, I see. I'll definitely take that into consideration for future works. Thanks!

Glad you like it. =3

I've pretty much been drawing as long as I can remember. One would hope I've learned something in the time since I stopped doing stick figures. XD

Hokusai's style is a lot harder to imitate than I first thought, haha. Hopefully this will turn out okay, though. The sketch has gone through a ton of phases already, and at first I hated it, but it's gradually getting better. @.@
