Description
I kind of wish I didn't have to pick between traditional and digital for this (aren't things like Anatomy and Perspective kind of useful in both?) but I went with Traditional since that's what I do.Pose is in the gallery here:
You can find more perspective and foreshortening poses in my gallery in this folder !
Pardon spelling mistakes and general rambling. I promised *shuu-bunni I'd make one of these.
DON'T FEAR THE FORESHORTENING! ATTACK IT WITH VIGOR!

This is super helpful. I find foreshortened images to be more dynamic then your normal bland poses, but I always felt intimidated by them because they are tough to deal with especially if its a pose that can make or break a piece with what you have taught in this tutorial though I now have a better understanding that I like would have never gotten from a book. Thanks alot.

Awesome! I hope when you try it you can find new ways to look at it to make it easier to manage. It really is all about tuning into the important information and tuning out the part of your brain that keeps trying to draw what it wants xD

DefinitelyΒ the brain circuit breaker is fuuuuuuun....
Great now I have to draw that...a brain having a circuit breaker. I slay me.

Wow, this is really great. First off, I didn't know you could draw yourself, not to mention that well! Maybe doing these poses also gives you a bit of an insight into 'how to look' at things... or maybe that's a skill you already need if you want to make reference poses. What surprises me most of all - I didn't expect to see someone doing poses for reference to do a guide on how to effectively use their poses in making their drawings. That's an excellent idea!

I started making stock for my own reference. Part of me would like to teach figure drawing, but I'd probably have to go back to school and get my masters and I don't think I'm ready for that xD

Oh! That's indeed a nice way to get into doing reference stock.
I often do my reference poses myself, because (especially in a certain composition) it is very hard to find exactly the right pose from the angle you want. But more often than not I just draw from intuition and my art isn't typically very reality-like because of that

yeah, I frequently snap photos of myself for a specific need xD

this is again, like he or she said, off topic, but I was watching a youtube vid about an old 'castles and knights' board game, that involves rubber bands and balls, that says to watch the cat while playing lol. Any movement, kitty likes. Or if you're doing something important, kitty bombs it.

Thanks! This is helpful... My mom used to flip the picture vertical so the brain couldnΒ΄t define body parts and start looking for shapes... That used to help me a lot. Because in that way you are not loking to something you already know.

Thank you very much for this! I've been reading Betty Edwards' "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" and this makes real what I've been learning there, too.
