Description
A little something I've been developing, one of my favorite mythological creatures! This is a rare example of a creature I've developed over time, rather than making a single sketch on the spot. I wanted to take the Hydra in a very naturalistic direction, imagining how nature might produce something as extreme as a multi-headed swamp monster.

Ultimately the design is influenced by a combination of crocodile, snapping turtle, and even walrus anatomy; the Hydra spends almost all of its life underwater, breathing through the brachiosaur like nostrils along its upper head crest, keenly watching the shore for prey to wander into range, snatching them up in a flurry of gnashing jaws. The Hydra almost never moves, expending as little energy as possible, allowing a single meal to maintain it for weeks, or even months!
