Description Well here is the Prince of Demons. This has been one of my favorite beast since I got the original '76 Monster Manual when I was a child. This is my best attempt at this strange and difficult demon.

All of my recent submissions are WIPs that I hope to clean up an color when I get my tablet going. That is why I am not stressing about the obvious scan separation line.

Yes I know I was just saying. I know the name "Demogorgon" was around before D&D

Never heard of this creature. What's it from?

Demogorgon the name comes from mythology and occult sorces originally; however, it is probably most famous as a Demon Prince in Dungeons and Dragons. That is what this is a picture of. It was always my favorite demon prince.

That is one cool beast! He's certainly got one heck of a design. I love the baboon heads and ripper-tentacles, and the bird feet and double tipped tail-you drew them all awesomely.

I feel like a bad D&D fan though-I've not heard of this guy before.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy so far.

Now, shame on you! Demogorgon has been the Prince of Demons (the most powerful demon) in the D&D mythology since at least the mirst Monster Manual (1976 I think). I'm pretty sure Demogorgon and Orcus are the only demon lords to appear in every edition of D&D as well (they both come from Greek Mythology as well). I haven't played since '91 but I still keep up. Perhaps Demogorgon used its hypnotic gaze on you to make you forget its terrible power?

It might have, but I thin I'm just a horrible fan. XD

No one would ever really play with me, either, so I just had the basic stuff, and the Monster Manuals. I'm learning about new stuff now, though.

A bit more mammalian fuzz (mane, razorback strip down the spine, etc.) might work for this design, but I can see why this guy tickles your fancy (in a strictly metaphorical sense, given those nasty denticle-tendrils). Between the dual-forked funk those arms & tails provide (shades of another multi-headed monstrosity) and the feral charm of those beetle-browed, fang-faced mandrill visages (especially slick work on the dentition & cheek-ridges), we have some prime hellbeast material here.

I tend to have a preference for scaley things, but something about the drill heads have always interested me. I did a little research before I drew this and mandrills have some really nasty canines.

This is design is something of a reaction to the more recent Demogorgon designs WoTC. They have shorter necks with fur covering the neck and torso; only the legs, tail and tentacles are scaley. I wanted to go back to a more classic design which was completely scaley but with the baboon/mandrill heads.

I agree that a full neck/torso pelt would be a bit much here...perhaps Ghidorah-style manes framing the heads, but no more. A little study of the "lesser" primates DOES reveal no shortage of toothy little (and not so little) SOBs.

I liked the idea of going down the spines as well.

No kidding - what happened to us - I could really use some 3" canines!

Guess we traded all the spiffy natural weapons for rocks, pointy sticks, firearms & the "wisdom" to (mis)use 'em wherever convenient...though I still don't see how big honkin' fangs would interfere with any of that unless the added calcium detracted from frontal-lobe mass. Go figure.

by the way we use that frontal-lobe, I sometimes think we would be better off with big fangs!
