Description Well, i needed some inspiration to work on my Ghidorah resurrection so i decided to work on a head shot to figure out how I was going to do the scales. So here is a little detail of my upcoming King Ghidorah resurrection. I hope you like it. Oh and a little sneak peak at the bio too!

Also, I am not sure I like the eye (I made about four versions before I gave up). Any suggestions would be welcome - and I don't want an anatomical looking eye!

"Ghidorah is the greatest among the Millennians and its plans, schemes and desires are completely foreign to mortals. It has never met its equal and what it can not sense directly it observes through one of its thousands of avatars throughout the Universe. It, or one of its avatars, occasionally appears to advanced civilizations throughout the universe and may converse, observe, advise, guide or destroy the mortals for reasons know only to it. It is worshiped and feared in many parts of the universe where its existence is known."

Belated fave; still one of the best Ghidorah-mugs I've ever stumbled across.

Wow good job on this! I love how you did the scales, they look different than to what Ghidorah's scales are usually like, but I think it fits him

The eye does look rather blank looking. I do have a suggestion, I know you don't want to do an 'anatomical' eye...but I think it would look better here if you did. But you can put a twist to it. Over the eye on a seperate layer, airbrush in a glow and set that layer to like color dodge or lighten and you might be adequately satisfied with the result. I did the same for my Flood King Ghidorah image and the eyes look very distinct becasue of it. If not, you can do something that I've been doing for my drawing of Jonathan Long's dragon form. Go back into your layers and create three shades for the eye, one for shadow, one for the base color of the sclera, the third part for the iris. Then smudge that in and apply shading with the burn tool at the edge of the sclera and add a glow with the dodge tool at the irus for the pupil. Then, go back to the top layer where the glow is and set it over what you've done. Then after that, add detailing to the scales of the eyelid to make it look like the glow is reflecting off of the gold of the scales.

But this is a suggestion.

Wow, thanks for the very detailed suggestion. I will have to give that a try sometime. I changed the eye to an image of a nebula for the reference sheet, but it sill looks a little flat. It is hard to see the image because the image in th ereference sheet is to small.

Ye gods...bust and bio alike are something else. Regarding the latter, I have one theory: mayhap Ghidorah's mercurial treatment of lesser beings/civilizations stems from a need for life-force and a decidedly long-term perspective in (a) cultivating said force in convenient places...and (b) smashing races which might someday compete with/threaten its designs.

Regarding the mugshot:

*Exquisite detail on the interlocking scales & horns, as well as that nifty throat-fringe.

*Although I'd have given Ghido lips for expressive purposes (e.g. snarls, sneers, etc.), fine job on the formidable-looking muzzle & teeth.

*Finally, two ideas for the eye: (1) a black void with a nebula-esque 'upil', or (2) a nova-flare glow surrounding a horizontal/diagonal black void...sort of like a cosmic goat-eye. BTW, good idea indeed from T.T.

At any rate, certainly a worthy portrait of the other-other-other King.

I completely forgot to explan my take on the lips no lips. In general I am in favor of lips for the very reason you suggest. All of my Gojira Phases will have them. But for KG I was trying to be a little bit purposefully opposite of Gojira. I wanted an expressionless yet powerful and menacing look to it. A look of vast age and strength. And I kept getting the image of an old Saltwater, Mugger or Nile crocodile. They have the most amazing, i don't take shit from noboby heads. So that sort of became the basis for the KG look. Just thought I would clarify.

Well being a mere mortal I really have no idea what KG could be thinking of, i.e. I didn't really think about when I wrote it - I just wanted it sound cool! But now that you mention it, I would image that with KGs vast intelligence and knowledge of the universe (multiverse?) its plans would be extremely long range and would appear almost prophetic in nature.

*Thanks

*I really like the idea of a nebula pupil/iris (I even have the nebula image that would be great). i tried an all black eye, but it didn't look correct. I think I will give the nebula a try for the actual refernce sheet that this will be a part of.

Thank you for the comments.

AsuraDragon In reply to hypergojira [2008-02-03 22:21:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm guessing it'll be big and have a lot of detail?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hypergojira In reply to AsuraDragon [2008-02-03 22:45:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, not exactly. The head shot is just for the detail portion of my upcoming King Ghidorah Resurrection reference sheet. Like the ones for Godzilla, [link] , Hedorah [link] , Xirugan [link] Rodan [link] , and Manda [link] So the main body will not be as detailed as the head shot, but I think it will be more detailed than my typical full body image. However, if Ghidorah turns out well I may post a larger, higher res version of just Ghidorah with no reference sheet.

Boy that was a long answer to a simple question!

Wow... this is so distinct from all the other Ghidorah heads I've seen, and yet it remains quintessentially King Ghidorah. The horns are especially well done. I wish I could help you with the eyes, but I'm something at a loss when it comes to designing aliens.

Thanks, I worried about the horns a lot and changed them several times. I am happy with the final result. The eyes are tough, i thought I might try overlaying an image of a galaxy or nebula or just star filled space, as KG is somewhat of a clestial deity in this kaijuverse. What do you think?

Holy crow! What an awesome Ghidorah! The horns and scales, the face, and the beam-they're all darn near perfect! That eye is truly freaky looking. I love, love the horns, how they grow from the scales themselves. That mug, those teeth, every thing is...guh, awesome!

Thanks a lot. This came out pretty close to what I wanted - the lower jaw is a little off and I got a little sloppy around the scales at the bottom of the neck, but otherwise this is what I wanted it to be. I'm glad you noticed that the horns "grow" from the scales - that was the look I was hoping to achieve. Thank you again for the comments.
