Description
Well here is Hedorah finally – I hope you like it. This is actually the fist daikaiju I penned for this series, but I colored Godzilla first. I was planning to do Rodan next but with Matt’s [link] contest I decided to do Xirugan next as it is my original Daikaiju.Origin:
Hedorans are an ancient race of aliens that hail from some distant Galaxy or possibly a different universe. They send tiny “seeds” throughout the universe in search of planets that can be conquered and brought under their rule. When the “seeds” mature (about 60 meters) they make contact with the Hedoran Empire and send for reinforcements or teleport back home if the planet is unsuitable for conquest. The Hedorans are ruled by the Great Hedorah who is march larger and vastly more powerful than the typical Hedoran. It is not clear if the Great Hedorah is a unique individual or a title to be assumed. The first Hedoran landed on earth in 1971 and quickly grew in size. However, before it became large enough to communicate with the Hedoran Empire it was destroyed by Gojira Phase 1 and the UN Anti-Kaiju forces.
Attacks:
Teeth, claws, Acidic and poisonous miasma, highly corrosive/acidic slime/sludge, particle beam energy attacks, gravity “bombs” (Great Hedorah)
Defenses:
Regeneration, tough hide, gravity shields (Great Hedorah), plasma cloud (Great Hedorah)
Weaknesses:
Can not communicate with the Empire until they reach approx. 60m (long range telepathy ability), their slimy hide can become dry and thus brittle and more easily damaged, they prefer to rule by intimidation and mind control rather than brute force – they are not the physically strongest daikaiju.
Special Abilities:
Extreme ability to change shape, flight, teleport across space/time (see above), telepathy
Next: Xirugan
Hedorah and Godzilla are copyright Toho Co. ltd.

So how large do you think the Great Hedorah would be? Like are we talking just a much bigger Kaiju or a planet sized Abomination?

If you note on the stats on the lower left the visible mass of the Great Hedorah is listed at 62,500 tonnes; however, its dark mass is listed t 0.5 solar masses (half the mass of the sun). Typically this dark matter is used for regeneration; however, it could use it to simple grow. In that case, it could grow to planet sized.

Imagine if Hedorah somehow got infected by John Carpenter's Thing.

I never thought of that; however, I imagine the highly corrosive nature of H's blood/fluids might be to much for the Thing.

dark matter can not be seen it only can be detected by obsurveing the way light bends when deistorted by black holes

??? Not sure what your point is? Although it has been a few years since I researched the subject, I don't believe black holes are considered "dark matter" The last time I looked dark matter and energy where not strictly defined the where mostly that we should be there, but that we cannot yet observe.

Dark energy is believed to responsible, but again, it is my understanding that there is not a lot of hard science to prove anything yet. It is more a name for a phenomenon than a definition of one.

Oh now that is a very menacing look Hedorah, is he more solid than before since he has claws?

hypergojira In reply to KaijuDuke [2011-03-30 21:40:41 +0000 UTC]
I am not sure how "solid" Hedorah was intended to be, but since it was a costume it always looked pretty solid to me. Thus, I think of my version as actually being more viscous than the original.
Something like clayface (if you are familiar with batman) that can be very fluid and then solidify the parts that need to dish out the hurt.

Well okay yeah, Hedorah was alot more solid than most blob monsters being a guy in a suit, but I always figured he was a solid mass of pollution/sludge since he could shapeshift and melt into goop at will and physical attacks went right through him. But yeah, I can see him being able to solidify parts of his body like Clayface to create melee weapons like spikes or hammers etc, etc
I was just wondering if he had an actual skeleton this time since the claws appear bone white, regardless, its a very menacing version of an oldschool monster so well done

hypergojira In reply to KaijuDuke [2011-03-31 02:35:46 +0000 UTC]
I wasn't planning on a skeleton, it was more like a temporary, localized transformation. They are not just more dense/solid sludge, but actual claw/tooth like structures that it can manifest at will.
FYI, Hedorah is not a "smog monster" in my write up. It is a lifeform from another part of the universe.

I don't have much time lately to do art, so probably not for a long time for Baragon. Probably never for Obsidius, if it wasn't in a movie - I'm not likely to included it.

at least not yet anyways... who knows there've quite a lot of unsused kaiju designs every so often a scrap ends being used like s godzilla. the film was going to be in place of the 70's mechagodzilla film or somewhere in between

in fact toho made a monster called bagan who would've been a film beast but was eventually put into snes's super godzilla as the last boss so perhaps obsidious might do the same or he may even appear in some future godzilla anime series (epic sweetness!!! ^_^)

Actually it is a bit low, I believe I raised the Great Hedoran's dark mass to 17 solar masses! - I just haven't updated the reference sheet.
The visible mass is what you want to look at if you are interested in how the Great Hedoran interacts with the "visible" physical universe that surrounds us typically. The dark mass is used for regeneration, gravity weapons/defenses, teleportation etc. It is not the mass you would feel if stepped on you - if you get my meaning.

No, what I have posted is basically what I've got. I do have some more bio and timeline info, but not much really, and Iwill post that infor when I can. I do have somewhat of a plan to do fanfic trilogy at some point. But it doesn't currently involve Hedorah.

Mission accomplished on the badass front...and when you factor in the revised stance, a smaller head/face makes sense balance-wise.

Nifty revision of Hedorah's background....the life-cycle we saw onscreen, while interesting, struck me as a bit convoluted. The design itself, while I do miss the gigantic evil eyes (though yours are still sinister enough), is also a bit more streamlined (at least, in the pose depicted), with some nifty additional features (especially those zipper-mouths).
As for the Hedorans' various energy defenses/weapons...the particle-beam emitters sound neat (they never did explain why Heddy had an optic ray in the film...), as do the plasma-cloud and gravity-weapons this 'Great Hedorah' can dish out. Nasty, nasty stuff, especially considering that most monsters would have a hard time getting through a Hedorah's toxic aura alone.

hypergojira In reply to geekspace [2007-08-28 11:31:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. I miss the eyes too. When I originally penned hedorah the head an eyes we much bigger like the original, but ithe big head looked a little goofy to me. So I scaled the head and the eyes with it. To me, these eyes fit this redesign better, but I do miss the big prominent eyes of the original!
I wanted to make the great hedorah a real badass, so maybe it could face off with Gojira Phase 2 at some point.
