Description
Well here is Rodan, finally! This took much longer than it should have. I have just been too busy. On top of that I couldn't get the colors right. I eventually decided it was more important for me to finish than to get it exactly the way I wanted. i know, i'm a slacker. I hope you like it.Origin:
Rodan is the creation of the ancient civilization of Mu. Created using Pterasaur base DNA (but a vast majority of unique DNA) and advanced biological and metaphysical engineering, it is designed as a recon, quick strike kaiju and aerial defense. Rodan was thought to be destroyed during the fall of MU. However, a volcanic eruption in 1956 released the entombed kaiju. Rodan primarily keeps to itself, rarely attacking the devices of humanity if let alone. It has occasionally assisted in the defense of earth. It was almost forgotten about and ignored by the UN Anti-Kaiju forces until an outbreak of Meganula in 2060 highlighted Rodanβs particular talents.
Attacks:
Teeth, claws, wing-claw, high speed winds
Defenses:
Flight, very strong chest armor, regeneration
Weaknesses:
No long-range attacks, vulnerable where thick armor plates are missing
Special Abilities:
Flight @ Mach 10, limited telepathy
Next: Manda
Rodan and Godzilla are copyright Toho Co. ltd.

Well, that isn't its normal cruising speed, but when it wants to go all out it can really move!

WARNING! Carry on reading! Or you will die, even if you only looked at the word warning!
Once there was a little girl called Clarissa, she was ten-years-old and she lived in a mental
hospital, because she killed her mom and her dad. She got so bad she went to kill all the
staff in the hospital so the More-government decided that best idea was to get rid of her so
they set up a special room to kill her, as humane as possible but it went wrong the
machine they were using went wrong. And she sat there in agony for hours until she died.
Now every week on the day of her death she returns to the person that reads this letter, on
a Monday night at 12:00 a.m. She creeps into your room and kills you slowly, by cutting you
and watching you bleed to death. Now send this to ten other pictures on this one site, and
she will haunt someone else who doesn't. This isn't fake. apparently, if you copy and paste
this to ten comments in the next ten minutes you will have the best day of your life tomorrow. You
will either get kissed or asked out, if you break this chain u will see a little dead girl in you

Only "fire Rodan" had the heat beam. This is my reinturpretation of the original Rodan - no breath weapon.

i just think for the older toho beasts they need updating... breath weapons king ghidorah was the only other kaiju with a weapon only because he's an alien... once hedorah was given laser eyes, megalon, gigan followerd plus older but updated foes like mothra got antennae beams, rodan a breath maybe its just me however though.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, HG.
(1) Maybe the 'basic' kaiju function much like large reptiles such as pythons, boas & crocodilians: slow metabolism, with a massively augmented (and likely unexplained by science) ability to store the energy a big tuck-in would provide (where a big snake can run on one meal for months, your generic monster can rest up for years), as well as draw a massive charge from solar power. That, or some funky mystic force serves as an energy source, depending on their origins.
And humanity (not to mention sealife in general) can thank its lucky stars that Godzilla in particular prefers nuclear/thermal/electrical/solar power sources to, say, mass quantities of meat...given the frequency of his visits, things might've been even uglier on the mainland. Although if Junior's offscreen attacks on whales in G vs. Destroyah were any indication, mayhap those instincts/urges are reserved for prey big enough to register as such.
(2) Thanks...whatever that new trick is, it ought to be interesting.
(3) Good to be on the same page there.
(4) I can sort of see Rodan 'carpet-bombing' a grounded foe with spines raining from his chest...but Anguirus, besides having much more surface area for said sharp & pointies, has a more pressing need to reach out & touch foes who insist on avoiding close combat. 'Sides, it fits with Ang's 'walking tank' nature.
Again, this is one of the best Rodan revamps I've ever seen.

Nifty...I love this design (as I previously commented regarding the BW version), the color scheme is pretty solid, and the backstory's quite intriguing...as is that nasty little 'snapshot' up in the corner. Hey, when everybody else has several thousand tons of armor & muscle on you, you gotta fight quick & dirty.
Some random, random thoughts:
-How often/long would Rodan's metabolism permit him to 'fast' between meals? I imagine the Meganula struck him as a pleasant buffet break.
-Regarding ranged/non-melee weapons...I can suggest one odd strategy:Rodan employs his obscene acceleration to generate a hypersonic shockwave in his foe's general direction...but slams on the brakes and/or snap-turns clear before coming within striking/zapping range, letting the wave knock said foe tail-over-teakettle (or swamp 'em with a tsunami of debris) before moving in.
-I like the idea of daikaiju in general sporting a moderate regenerative ability...though in my opinion, Godzilla should still have the edge due to his atomic mojo enabling said regen to kick in automatically (as well as deal with more grievous damage), whereas 'lesser' monsters must retreat to lick their wounds.
-Four-syllable idea for the Anguirus revamp, whenever that comes along: projectile spines.
Again, great work.

I'll try to answers your questions as best as I can:
1) I don't know. I haven't really decided if my interpretation of kaiju actually have to eat, or what they have to eat. It is probably different for every beast. Originally the early kaiju designs probably needed to eat and eat a lot. later designs could probably turn just about anything into energy (or feed of energy directly).
2) That would be a fairly logical extension of Rodan's more traditional sonic boom attack. I have something else in mind for Rodan Phase II though.
3) Yes, I think they all need to be able to regenerate. Some will be realtively slow and others nearly instaneous and the most powerfull can acheive almost total regeneration.
4) I was actually thinking of doing something like that for my Rodan Phase II design. But I can't remember how that was going to work. It souns pretty goofy for Rodan now that I think about it. It definitely fits more naturally with Anguirus.
Thanks again for the great questions.

Thanks, Rodan has always been one of my favorite Kaiju and I really disliked Fire Rodan. So no beams please. However, I will be adding a long range attack for Rodan phase II, but that's another story.

hmmm, depending how its done i guess long range for rodan could work, as long as its not a beam(or atleast not a godzilla knock off beam).

I wouldn't call what I had in mind a beam, but while reading your post I just got an idea for another "corporeal" long range attack!

Thanks. I really wanted to go into more detail, but I like to leave myself some wiggle room in the bios. I will add more info in future timelines and Rodan Phase 2.
Well, it is kinda my take on a showa style Anguirus. But it is not a preview of my Anguirus redesign.
