Description
I was planning on getting some architectural shots today but it was majorly overcast so halfway to Chicago I decided to swing by the zoo instead. The butterfly area at the Brookfield Zoo was full of these beauties. I'll go through the rest of my shots and see if there are any more good enough to post.Related content

Thank you. Found that taking pics at the highest size really helps the quality. Hopefully I'll get good enough to do prints of some photos but I need more practice for that.

That sounds awesome. I wish I had a place like that closer to where I live. I'd probably buy season tickets.

Oh my gosh, that is such a beautiful shot!! The way the butterfly is exactly in the middle and everything's focussed just on the little guy! I've never seen such a butterfly before. It's so pretty. ^-^ You'll hardly find any butterflies here. There used to be quite a lot when I was little but now...it's like they have disappeared. I didn't even know a zoo could keep butterflies. Do they just cage them or...??
But anyway, don't stop taking photographs!

They have an enclosed section that you pay a small fee to enter. Once inside, there are a good 300 of around 12 different types that are all over the place. Hopefully I'll be able to get back there soon and take some better images. Still not ready to make a print yet, but getting better behind the camera.

another excellent butterfly macro. you're turning into a real pro in this kind of stuff.
I actually have a profound dislike of butterflies and moths and any soft-bodied creature, but you actually make them look beautiful.

Thanks, Weedonio. I wish I could get good at taking bird shots, but for me everthing that has wings is difficult.

Appreciate that. Wasn't sure because of the background, but the colors of the wings forced me to share this little guy.

Heh, yeah. Well, maybe if ya changed the frame to a livelier color like orange or something, then the background would work better. But eh? ^__^

Not to spoil the mood, but did you know that the butterfly got its name because of the color of it's excretement? Weird huh?

Thanks. They were moving around so much I figured it would be easier with a really shallow depth of field. Looking at my shots, it seems to help draw attention exactly where it should be.
