Description Painted in the final paint scheme of the Voodoo in Canadian Air Force service (1983) and with the markings of 416 Lynx Squadron which was based out of CFB Chatham, New Brunswick. This is the Revell 1/48 Scale Voodoo. The kit required quite a few modifications to make it look like a Canadian Voodoo, and I had to order the decals online, which I ordered from Bealchers Bits.

Before anyone points it out, the biggest mistake I made was the placement of the numbers on the nose. I do plan on fixing that at some point. Also there is no red stripe around the back of the fuselage. I thought that would come with the decals but it did not and I didn't want to risk screwing the model up by trying to paint it on. Other then that I'm happy with it.

Overall it was a great kit to build and a lot of fun. It will make a nice addition to my fleet.

Thanks! Yeah this is one of my favorites, such a nice sleek looking aircraft also. These markings were the last they used in the late 70s to mid 80s I believe.ย

This is better than my model airplane kit. How did you paint the windows so accurate?

Very nice, clean work you've done on this Voodoo model. The Voodoo was always an impressive aircraft. I honestly wouldn't have noticed your errors until you pointed them out, but there are those out there who would've tagged you about them. I'm of the opinion that if YOU had a good time with the kit, and it's finished to the level that YOU wish to take it, then that's just fine and as it should be. If someone else wants to take it to a different level of finish, let them buy the kit and build it themselves. You're model building level is just fine, and your models are very respectable! Don't let anyone run you down about them.

You've got some great skills and talents on display here with your gallery both in modelbuilding and in photography! Keep up the wonderful creativity and best of wishes to you in your endeavours!

Thank you very much! I have never really been run down, its just things that I notice that are wrong. I try to keep most of my models clean, though I would like to experiment with dirtying them up a bit. My next build is a Mosquito it will be built to museum display standards (hopefully.

Thanks again! I have fun doing both!

Looking great! I have a couple of these models and want to build a few different ways. I hope mine come out as well!

It might be a while. I want to make a version with the large dart target we had at Tyndall AFB, This means building the tow real and jacking the gear to look like it is overinflated.

You guys used an old Voodoo for target practice? Would like to see a picture of that.

The Voodoo was not the target. It had a tow reel mounted on the belly, that would reel out a towed target on a mile or so long cable. We would draw circles on the target and pitch in a buck. If it was brought back and your circle had a bullet strike, you won the pot. They also towed smaller darts that the gear did not need to be jacked up. The ultimate was the towed dart that was already about a hundred or so feet behind the plane on take-off.This was always fun to watch as they would need to do a maximum performance take-off!

Ok, yeah I was going to say using a Voodoo as a target would be horrible. That sounds awesome and a lot of fun, just something you would do on your free time or was it actually used as a form of training?

SwiftFlyer In reply to AEisnor [2012-12-17 04:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Tyndall is a training base. The William Tell Weapons meet is there every two years. While I was there the Voodoo's were used for the test squadron, trained the Air National Guard units that flew the Voodoo and we did tow targets that were used for aerial gunnery training.

Now I understand what you are talking about! Sounds like it would be fun for the pilots and those betting on which target would be hit.
