Description
Another Anthrocon commission this year, Athena Khyran, drawn by Max Blackrabbit.She's the R-Force's "brick" character, hardened by a lifetime of military training and subdued fury against the Malavites. Able with withstand even a grenade at close range, she's not a soldier you want to mess with, at least not without a bazooka (and even there she might be too much to handle).
Max captured her seriousness dead-on; she's unstoppable!

That's what I imagine. In fact, I imagine Athena gets that "common reaction" from everyone she sees, except maybe a few in the R-Force who may understand her feelings and why they are (I'll bet Jerelle knows her story). People flee, children run home screaming. Remember how you said she was "hardened" by her military life and service. The word "harden" can have one of two meanings: (according to Merriam-Webster.com) "to make hard or harder" or perhaps tougher in Athena's case, or "to make callous." In fact, I imagine the two definitions apply. The military training has made her stronger; her service in the Malavite conflict, whatever it was, may have some more. Perhaps her war experience scarred her for life, and when she was discharged she appeared to be "cold" in the eyes of regular Ri'Khana as she stepped out the door. Maybe they have heard of her Auran indestructibility and they think of her as a monster, or maybe a "grisly bear"; that is probably why everyone retreats in her presence even if she really means them no harm. Of course, you know they say, "If you don't bother them, they won't bother you" and that is the case with Anthena. The "common reaction" would harden poor Athena ever more, in the second sense of the word and as soon as she learned that everyone is afraid of her, she can no longer trust them.
Am I erroneous? My point is that maybe she wants to be loved even though she is angry most of the time, but it makes her angry that no one can see who she is on the inside and earn the courage to show her love. Is that what you've had in mind all along, or am I presenting something to fill a hole in the story?
