For 30+ years I have had a massive bromance with this weapon.

I'd bought one in the '80s, and took it to a car wash to get the cosmoline coating off. A great shooter and a lot more powerful than you might think! Wish I still had it, like a lot of guns I'd owned.

Cool. My grandfather had a M1 Carbine in the Army Air Corps during WWII. I wish I had it.

True...btw what do you use to make the pictures? I really like them.

Photoshop.
It's more an example of digital photo editing than anything else - illustration rather than art.

How exactly do you do that? Do you draw them in photoshop, or are these photographs edited to look like drawings?

Mix of both, honestly.
I start with a profile picture of the subject, or at least as close as I can find. Once I've got that I'll open the image in photoshop and resize (height varies, so I tend to use a uniform width of 2000px for handguns and 4000px for long guns on my newer stuff. The M1 Carbine set is an older project, but the principles are pretty much the same for newer stuff.
After I've gotten it blown up to workable dimensions I'll put on another layer and use the Line Tool to mark out the geography of the underlying picture. When I've got those set I'll delete the original image (which leaves an uncolored outline) and fill in colors, textures, and smaller details later.
Depending on complexity I can knock out a completed left/right profile in a couple of days.

Thanks. Expect two more for the Thompson submachine gun (military and civil versions) in the near future.
