I'm trying to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of publishing my first illustrated (30+ internal tradition illustrations) novel.

The story behind Vicious Sun~
Vicious Sun began during the month of November in 2011 as a NaNoWriMo project. NaNoWriMo, for those who have never participated, is also known as National Novel Writing Month, and consists of 30 days of complete literary abandon where people from around the world attempt to complete 50,000 words of story at a rate of 1667 words per day.
It's a complete blast, and I managed to complete a 55,555 word story that year. However, writing at that fast of a rate and working 40 hours a week means that there are bound to be issues with the story. Typos, plot holes, bad characterizations, and sentences that will never see the light of day... all of which I have spent the last year working through and cleaning up, and sometimes flat-out rewriting.

So now, I have a draft. It is pretty. It is ready to see the world beyond my computer, and will be going out to beta readers this month, and I will hopefully have the final product in Spring of 2013. There is a lot going on between now and then, and that's where the Kickstarter comes in.

Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing online fundraising tool that allows creative folks like me raise money to create their creative things! If I don't raise $10,000, you don't pay anything! It's a great way to pre-order items and get special prints and other cool rewards that are otherwise not available outside of the Kickstarter. The money that I am trying to raise through Kickstarter would first and foremost go into paying for a professional editor. Many self-published books skip this part, but I feel that this is one of the most important parts. You always can tell when a big-name author takes the reins and charges off on their own without an editor's help. Lots of little issues appear, and it makes the book less enjoyable. I want Vicious Sun to be as enjoyable as possible!

Due to health reasons, I had to quit my previous job and have since then focused on trying to write as a full time career. This Kickstarter will make that dream possible. If you have a few minutes, check it out! $10 dollars gets you an ebook that includes all of the illustrations, $5 gets you a cool wallpaper of the cover art, and $1 gets you a shout-out on my website. There are even more cool rewards starting at the $25 range, including paperback and hardcover copies of the book, posters, collectors cards, T-shirts, and even getting your own character in a future novel!

Even if you don't have any money to spend right now, just posting a link to the Kickstarter on Facebook, DeviantArt, or any other social media outlet helps enormously!

Final hour count on the cover art - ...80ish. I think. I lost track quite a while ago. We hit at least 60 at the end of July... a long time, haha. Great learning piece, though!
