Guess what I had been watching last week!!
But really, Speed Racer was a nostalgia trip for me, as I had watched quite a few of the episodes as a kid (in limited VHS tapes). With the Youtube era, I've discovered a wider array of episodes and now see just how bizarrely hilarious this show is. From the trademark dubbing to the outrageous plots and twists, this show never fails to entertain (even if it's in an ironic way now). Say what you will, bad or good, that Mach 5 kicked major amounts of ass.
Speed Racer and the characters belong to their respective owners and creators. The artwork belongs to me.

Well I do remember SR when it originally came to American TV many moons ago. Loved it when I was like 10. Have them all on DVD and like to pull them out for a peek once in a while...I'm such a geek.

Nice interpretation of the classic characters! I haven't seen the original cartoon - I've only seen a remake from the 1980's or 1990's. It was horrible but I watched it because of the cars! I've also played a video game based on the original series.

Yeah, all of the remakes that have come out since the 60s have not done the original justice. It's really hard to capture the quirks that made the original fun without it becoming a parody of the the series itself.

Glad to hear someone loved it then. I give the movie credit for keeping most of the visual elements of the Mach 5 similar, keeping quite a few of the details down in a movie time format, and giving Mom Racer an expanded role. Unfortunately, the movie also bogged itself down with long flashbacks (including during the climax), occasionally headache-inducing light displays, and quite a few dull scenes that would have been more tolerable if the tone wasn't as dead-serious as it was. It was an interesting interpretation, but I have no plans on seeing it again anytime soon.

It does actually. I'm not upset that you mildly enjoy it, since judging by how 'well' it did at the box office it wasn't as successful as I would've hoped. But still, opinions are opinions, and I'm not going to bash you for you own opinion.

Both the American and Japanese themes are very catchy, I was actually listening to the original one quite a lot during this pic's creation.
And I'm sure Racer X is just hoping the narrator doesn't blow his identity cover a third time this episode!

I saw some eps on Cartoon Network in '96 when I went to Dallas to see my dad when he worked on some projects there at the time! Β It was an amusing show none of the less! Β Β
Now, the original owners, Tatsunoko Productions, have the rights to the crew again after settling a lawsuit between Tatsunoko and the American licensee- Β www.bleedingcool.com/2014/01/0β¦ Β
Oh, and the 2008 movie was from what I heard, horrible and a box office dud.

And for what it's worth, there are a few interesting parts from that movie. It's not good by any stretch of the imagination (or so what my senses tell me), but I've seen much much worse, TV revivals or otherwise.
