Description Dad bought Mom two dozen roses to go in a new crystal vase he got on sale, so I just had to try drawing one. I really, really need to use better paper. Why is it that the best ideas come when I have only the thin stuff? I painted this in watercolor while I was losing at poker last night due to some REALLY bad hands. (we only play nickel, dime and quarter with two dollar stakes so I didn't lose too much, fortunately!)

I had to mix most of the colors that I used since I have a very simple half-pan set to get the look that I wanted, but it was fun and entertaining anyway!

The colors distract from the paper for they are wondrously lovely. Good job.

nice job! especially mixing the colors.

Too bad you used lousy paper. It would have been interesting to see some of those washy effects you can get when you saturate the paper with water.

To me, watercolor is a very difficult medium.

well done!

Mmm... washes... ^.^ I'm still very new at watercolor and have only had a few lessons, so I am pretty much still experimenting. A lot of the time when I sketch in my journal I think, oh, I don't want to waste good paper on this-- and then it turns out much better than I thought it would and I regret *not* using good paper. (Go figure.) I like many of the effects that can be achieved in watercolor too and hope to be able to attain similar quality someday.

i used to 'collect' paper. I'd save and buy a $20 sheet of watercolor paper...store it in my studio and take it out every now and then to look at.

if i knew how much easier the 'good stuff' makes the job of painting...(and had an endless supply)

i would have used it for everything!
