Description
Because I say 'black' instead of African American, doesn't mean I'm racist. If I call someone Mexican and, heaven forbid, they're Puerto Rican, I'm not an ignorant twat.
I'm going to state my opinions on gays, abortion, whatever else is a touchy subject. Yes, I'm going to do my best to not intentionally offend anyone. But seriously. Come on. Things need to stop being so touchy. Hm. Maybe I should have put prejudiced instead of racist. Meh. Whatever. You get me, I hope.
~Finch
PS. I think I need to go to stamp rehab, I've been making so many. Oh damn, that would make a good stamp. I copyright it as of now.

i honestly don't understand why calling a black guy black is considered racist,if calling one black is deemed racially offensive, than calling them "African American" is no different because it is still a distinguishing title of race.
i get called white all the time by people, and i'm not offended because, guess what?,i AM white. (and when someone calls me a cracker or a honky i just can't help but laugh!)

Well, if you think about it "political correctness" is just a pejorative term used by the right wing to put down a practice of calling people what they want to be called.Β
So I really have a hard time understanding the need to wistfully remember when you could call American Indians "redskins," you could call Arabs "towel-heads," or even when you could call African Americans "niggers."
I call it basic respect.

I agree. I don't use euphenisms most of the time, and I won't like an unlikeable nonwhite character just to avoid sounding racist.

I really have to applaud you for this. Political correctness is overruling these days, and it seems to cause more problems than it solves. It only makes a touchy subject stay touchy instead of allowing us to get over things and move on. I'm rarely ever politically correct, but I'm not prejudiced, either!

I think people act overly sensitive to slightly politically incorrect terms because they're trying to end racism.. Umm yeah.. sorry toots, that's not happening.

Totally agree.
Also, the term African American, I've heard that it's kind of offensive from some people below in the comments- which I think makes sense. I'm not black, but I see how it could be annoying. It's not as if they're new immigrants or something- they're American, seriously. Besides, I'm 1/16 Hispanic- my great grandmother was an immigrant from Mexico, but it's not like I'm "Hispanic", you know? And African Americans have been here for many more than a few generations.
But I probably don't have much of a say, I'm not black and I don't think everyone finds it offensive, but yeah...

I don't even like the term African American -_-' I'm not racist, but the term is just stupid.
I mean, i don't say i'm German American, or im Russian American. And how many "Spanish Amercians" do you hear about? or "Indian Americans"
No. You're just African. That doesn't mean your any less of a person or citizen. But still.

Thank you. Honestly it bugs the crap out of me when my family talks about how 'black is beautiful' & 'n***a this' & 'n***a' that it`s its own form of ignorance and bordering on bigotry. On the other side tho a 'friend' said that "I`m not ignorant just because I`m black" a compliment and insult all wrapped into one. It kinda hurt.

soo right! everyone is so sensitive. why can't they just go with the flow and let go of things. you know forgive and forget. if peple didn't get so easily offended maybe some of the world's problems would not be true as of today.

I really don't care if you say black or african-american. But I'm so many generations removed from the african part it's kinda weird. Technically I'm actually Creole, but I don't care if someone calls me black because they don't know any better. A Many people don't even know what Creole is.
The only thing I disagree with is saying someone from puerto rico is mexican. I don't feel like you can use them interchangeably like black and african american. I have a friend who's from costa rica and she gets offended if someone says she's from puerto rico, they're two different countries, get what I'm saying? Just a thought.

I know this is an old comment, but I've never met a person who was insulted because someone called them black. I mean, I'm not saying it's never happened to anyone, but if you're implying it's common, it doesn't seem to be.

Technically I'm creole, but most people just call me black. I don't get upset about it, it keeps things simple. I honestly get tired of having to explain what creole is to people.

People in America are so sensitive! D: If I wanted to be sensitive I'd make people call me Caucasian, but I don't like that word, and it's easier to say "You're white."
Things have gone way too far these days, and I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.
I mean, honestly. I celebrate Christmas. If I want to say "Merry Christmas!" I'm going to say "Merry Christmas!"
It's a kind gesture is all.

"We"? You mean, the Americans? It's the US-only term. [link]
"Makes about as much sense as calling Jamaican people African-American."
"Jamaican people" is not a race (black 91.2%, mixed 6.2%, other or unknown 2.6%). And your example is actually in reverse.

Well, you see, I am American. I was referring to myself and my country. It's just something I'm used to, seeing as I mainly spend my time talking to friends I know in person, so I'm used to calling Americans "we."
I wasn't aware that the names are different in other countries, thanks for letting me know. ^^ Sorry if I seem ignorant.
I'm not trying to get into an argument about this, so I'm sorry if I seem anything less than civil.
