Description The final part of a three-part commission, hopefully done! Yeah, I know, T. rex probably had feathers, but it's still up for debate I suppose. Anyway, I didn't give it nearly as many scales as I did the others, showing at the very least it had naked leathery skin.

Not too fat, not too skinny, original stance for a T.rex, highly accurate, and doesn't look like a scaly fanboy version on Tyrannosaurus. This is the best!

This is best good

But seriously, that's like the pose you see typically for pachycephalosaurs, but it works so well with T. rex!

Rarely do I see T.rexes drawn in this pose, but out of all of them this is definitely the best!

I specially like the way it has a lot of meat on it's bones, instead of being shrink-wrapped. Adds up to the anatomic accuracy.

I always thought a naked rex might look...um...ugly in Β that vulture ugliness sort of way, but this is actually very very nice!

Heh, I would have put feathers on it, but as this was a commission I respected my client's preference for no feathers (and plus that would have added to the cost and put it outside their budget!!). I should do a companion piece that shows it with feathers though...

Regardless, I'm glad you like it!

Haha, I don't know about the best... I tried using a color scheme not used for Rex very often, so I'm glad you like it! ^^

Great work! Both feather-less and great saurian lips are just perfect!

I would have actually normally given it a dusting of feathers, but it wouldn't have been worth all the extra effort, so this is an acceptable alternative.

Anyway, glad you like it!

Madam

But thank you! Rex skulls are surprisingly tricky, and it's not an angle you often see, so I'm glad it turned out alright! ^^

There's nothing wrong with "naked" (featherless and scaleless) skin at this point in time; though I prefer to keep some sparse feathering for safety's sake, but it's not an absolute necessity.
In any case, I love the pose and angle on this one.

Oh, thought I'd tell you. I spoke with a museum paleoreconstruction guy today, and apparently the Carnotaurus holotype does include facial skin, which is as scaly as the rest of the animal.

Tomozaurus In reply to Boverisuchus [2013-03-06 09:07:47 +0000 UTC]

I've heard that before, but thanks. I heard it was more rugose in texture, I don't know how true that is though.

Boverisuchus In reply to Tomozaurus [2013-03-06 09:23:05 +0000 UTC]

I think facial scalation in ceratosaurs and abelisaurs, being such primitive theropods, is not an issue.

Ahrkeath In reply to Tomozaurus [2013-03-05 21:19:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I would have feathered it a little too, but it would have been too time-consuming and I would have had to charge more.

But yeah, until we know more about the rex skin impressions that are out there us paleoartists have a little bit of flexibility yet. ^^

Anyway, I'm glad you like it! Thanks!
