Description
"Welcome to the Attic of the MoonPlayground to many a merry loon
Where the dancers are dead
And the horses impaled
Where the souls of the lost
Are eternally jailed
Well come, to the circus of infinite gloom
Hereβs a ticket, come in! Join the revel of doom."
Corny I know. ^^ Anyhoo, here is Friiko inviting us in to the carnival called "Attic of the Moon." The name, if you don't catch the obscure pun, refers to the french words for moon and attic ("lune" and "attique"). Put the two together and you get the idea.
Other portraits of Friiko can be seen here: [link] And here: [link]

Fascinating character. I have a role paying game running right now based on a crooked carnival. I love perusing this kind of stuff.

Thank you!
Yes, I, too, have a fascination with carnivals. They're a perfect mix of creepy and fantastical.

I'm actually thinking of redoing this picture at some point. Rework the character design a little, revamp her costume.

I love ho wyou worked wild colors into the dim light and still made them stand out in their own rights. There's a frivolity about the pose but something so dark and serious about the background. Sure, it's a carnival and children delight in that, but put something that children use into an adult context and that immediately gives it frightening connotations. Great work in making it subtly creepy but incredibly visually interesting.
Reminds me, by the way, a bit of a song I like and it might appeal to your tastes too, from what I know of your artwork. There's a song by a Spanish 80's band called "Mecano" that I love to death and have tried to portray multiple times in multiple styles, mediums and formats over the years. If it interests you, I'd LOVE to see your take on it. (Download the MP3 by Mecano in Spanish, Italian or French, as its better than the Sarah Brightman version)

Very nice job with those colors. I like how you have a blur in the background so it focuses on the main part of the piece. Cool effect and good job with the lights too.

I always thought Friiko was a creepy-looking character. [shudders]
But a cool one, nonetheless. I really love how glittery everything is! [blinded] But anyway, I'm so envious of your ability to bring scenes to life, and how imaginative and original your characters are. Beautiful work. ^^

Thank you very much!
Friiko never turns out quite how I want her to... I always imagine her as looking more elegant. But I have trouble with that... though I do know a person who is much better at that sort of thing. Except I usually only see pretty boys from her.

Oh my gosh! She's *so* cool! I love it! And I adore that poem! -goes to memorize it- heh heh -- Very nice pun. I like it also.
Oohhh... Carosel! Those things are so -- weird. Really weird. Look at her posing on that! She's so cool! -grin- I really like the background -- and foreground -- and everything in between! Very colorful. (your art has the tendency to make me talk in incomplete sentences it seems.... -cough-) I love her wings too!
"and the horses impaled" Oh... Wow, neat line... And creepy -- but oh so true...

Of course I used references! I can't do something like this out of my head. Friiko is all imagination, but the carousel... I took photographs, and used two of them for reference.
Actually, to be more exact, I painted on top of one of them. Of course the lighting was all wrong, and there were people on the carousel, a kid on the horse, stuff in the background, and all sorts of other distracting things... I had to paint those out and change all the colors. The second picture was for color reference, as it was taken at night.
