Description

This imaged is inspired by one of my favorite movies, The Way.  The main story revolves around a group of people walking the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage route across northern Spain that is now popular with travelers the world over.  And, of course, the Spanish word for pilgrims, quoted throughout the movie, is "peregrinos", from the same base word as the name of the well known and far flying bird of prey.  Apart from being a beautifully shot film, the mix of lighter scenes, some heavy drama, and comedic moments, as well as the overall theme, really hooked me on it.  The central thrust, I think, is not about any overt religious themes, or even just be a light, buddy-travel flick.  Rather, I feel it asks the question of "why do we journey", and it explores that for many reasons through the different characters, with more depth than I think a lot of people give this film credit for.  It's an idea that really struck a chord with me.  And ever since, I've been trying to branch out and experience new places and things, be it as far as other countries or as close as new corners of my own city.  And hopefully one day I'll be able to go and hike the Camino itself.  ^v^

The other idea that gave rise to this pic is actually a matter of anatomy.  Because, unlike pretty much every other bird I've drawn, these ones are without wings.  For birds especially, animals so much defined by the ability of flight, something almost every earthbound person longs for, taking a journey by walkking would certainly hold a different sort of meaning for them, and give them both a figurative and literal new perspective on things they experience.

So this picture emergeed out of that amalgam of notions.  Having a picture of travelers, albeit of a different sort, sojourning along the route where "the path of the wind crosses that of the stars."

This is fairly special pic for several reasons.  Not the least of which because I got to work a bit with my friend .  I did the original line art, which I posted just prior to this pic, but she took it, reworked it and colored it.  And wow, did she knock it out of the park.  ^v^

Please, please, please make sure to favorite the version on her page, and check out her other amazing works, too.

Lineart done by me.
Colored pic done by tarkheki and reposted here with her permission.
Additional thanks to Corrvo, who gave me some advice on the lineart.  ^v^

Thank YOU for the patience! I get over-saddled with a lot of work, easily, so I appreciate the leniency to get it done right.
