Based on the 2003 Clone Wars style, Joiner King 1 was the first issue in the Joiner King fan comic series based on the novel The Joiner King.
A group of Jedi Knights, including Jaina and Jacen Solo, disappear into the Unknown Regions, following a strange cry for help that only they could hear. The Chiss accusing the missing Jedi of meddling in border disputes with the colony of unidentified aggressor. The Galactic Alliance does not know what is causing the insubordination of the Jedi who have gone on their own, unassociated mission, so Luke, Han, and Leia have no other choices but to set off towards the Unknown Regions. However, none of them is prepared for what they will find there...
Plot
Six years after the Yuuzhan Vong War ended, on the ice planet of Kr, Welk, the former member of the Shadow Academy, has informed Lomi Plo, a Nightsister and Queen of the Gorog, aka the Dark Nest, that UnuThul, the leader of the Colony, calls the group of Myrkr Jedi survivors through Force, including Jaina and Jacen Solo, and lures them to the Qyuel system.
On the reformed Coruscant, the Masters of the Jedi High Council regrets that they have so few Jedi Knights and so many missions that must be completed immediately. The Chief of State, Cal Omas, is visiting, accompanied by the envoy from Chiss Ascendancy, Mitt'swe'kleoni. Tswek asks the Council why the Jedi Knights got involved in the conflict on the border of the Chiss territories. Luke Skywalker and the other masters reply that they have no information on this, but assure that the five Jedi who have suddenly disappeared (Jaina, Zekk, Lowbacca, Alema Rar, and Tesar Sebatyne) is very experienced and will definitely not doing anything wrong. However, the Chiss counted as many as seven Jedi. After a brief conversation that shows nothing concrete, Tswek leaves the Council chamber. By deduction, the masters conclude that the next two Jedi are Tahiri Veila and Tekli (possibly Jacen), and that they are all survivors of the Myrkr mission that took place in the middle of the war with the Yuuzhan Vong. Cal Omas suggests that Skywalker himself go in search of the wayward knights.
Meanwhile, the Solo couple, Han and Leia, reside on Borao, hoping the planet will serve as a new home for the Ithorians. Scanning its surface aboard the Millennium Falcon, they discover that they are being followed by a skiff belonging to the RePlanetHab corporation , which also wants to take over the planet. Their Ithorian companion, Ezam Nhor, refuses to let Solo maneuver the skiff, leading to its shattering, explaining that his race will never live on the planet conquered by the murder. During the flight of Kyp Durron connects with them, saying that Jacen, Jaina, and other Myrkr survivors have journeyed towards the Unknown Regions. So, disturbed by Solo, they follow them.
Around that time, Luke, with his wife Mara Jade and his son Ben, along with Saba Sebatyne, have reach the Unknown Regions with the Jade Shadow and fly deep into the bizarre structure that turns out to be a nest of the unknown, insectoid race. They are amazed to discover that the creature fighters are actually methane-powered rockets, which means they use rather outdated technology. As they land, they start looking around the nest. They enter the local cantina where creatures of different races meet. When they inquire about the missing young Jedi, Saba has made a negotiation with the Ewok, Tarfang, which ensures that Captain Jae Juun can provide the necessary information. At first, the Sullustan refuses to cooperate, defending himself against the conditions set by his principal. However, when the Jedi offer him a large sum of money to repair his ship, he agrees to help them.
At the same time, the Solo clan also arrives at Lizil's nest. They make contact with the natives, but they don't understand their language. After asking C-3PO for advice, he also replies that he does not know the dialect. After landing in the hangar, an incident occurs between Han and several representatives of the alien race. The natives want to board the Millennium Falcon, but Solo does not allow them to do so, as a consequence the aliens mark the captain's ship with strange liquids. An unknown Aqualish arrives to assist Han which washes away insect markings. He also explains that these creatures are traders and that the mysterious liquid symbolizes the hostility of the "customer" and that in this situation the insects would return in greater numbers. Hearing these words, Solo agrees to trade. Beings have a specific concept of trade. They take out everything they want and offer other things in return. During the deal, the Solo couple meet Luke, Saba, Mara, Ben, Jae, and Tarfang. In the end, R2-D2 seems to having malfunctions that impede his abilities and activities.
