EDIT 2: DA has heard us! They made some changes and now it's no need to click to see the artist's comments. I've seen the change a few times. However, I've heard that some beta testers still see the more button so I guess DA's still working on the change.Thank you DA for listening to us!

DA plans to hide the artist's comments in version 7 released now to beta testers. If you're a beta tester and do not want your comments hidden then please post a comment on the forum and let DA know it! [link]
I for one, do not agree with hiding the artist comment box. It shouldn't be hidden. If you don't want to read it , ignore it. But that is part of my PIECE and I want that part to BE SEEN not HIDDEN.
What will happen when we add thumbs and no one will see them? Because I'm 100% sure that people WILL NOT click that button just to read the comments. So there...and it goes further than that...credits, copyrights, stamps, thumbs, dedications, lyrics, and so on...is DA becoming like photobucket or flickr? Why is the comment box still there anyway? No one will ever bother reading it anymore!...
We are a community, we are here to share our work, interact with others, help expose other fellow deviants but how can we still do that if no one will see our comments? Now DA has found a better way to help support each other..by hiding the artist's comments! Nice!that was sarcasm btw

maybe you must open the deviation in a new tab/page then you'll see it. It has happened to me too...

Just opened a deviation in a new tab and when I roll over the artists comments, part of it disappears and says "more".
Tbh, I much prefer being able to read the whole comment without having to click a "more" button.

v7.2 doesn't even work for me. It crashes my browser anytime I click on anything... or even better, rollover any of the numerous drop-down menus. When it comes into place (I can see it's a matter of when, not if), very sadly, I don't think I will even be able to use dA anymore.
But since I've been unable to beta-test it.. I thank you for this deviation. I had heard about this, and quite frankly now I see it, I am really.. well, pissed off about it.
Maybe soon dA will find a way to make us "look" more "professional" by altogether getting rid of journals.

That fact alone would guarantee that most people will not see the artist's comments anymore, in my opinion. The way I see it most people won't look into the technical details of the new version, they'll just accept it and use it like nothing ever happened (not to mention all the new users who don't even know that you could see the artist's comments before), so if they decide to go through with this they should at least make the "more" button visible at all times, not just when hovering over it.
Personally, I don't use the comment box much. Most of the times I just want my work to speak for itself and/or I don't find the words to put in there. Sometimes I just say if it was influenced by something or, for photographs, where they were taken. But I see that many people want to use it and it happens often that you find some very interesting information in there that complements the work. So I'm for keeping it the way it is.

We get ONE MEASLY line before 'more' is ' pressed'!!

I think the majority don't like the idea much. Kathy went through every, yes, EVERY comment on that forum! And I'm not going to doubt her when she tells me that the majority were either against it or didn't care.

They could have it as an optional extra, like a box, that says "artists comments on" or somthing

I feel that hiding the artist's comment box is selfish of DA; it's like all they want from us now is our art, and they don't care about anything else. It's like taking all the candy from it's wrapper and then selling it to the public - that's all good and well, but what if that lolly is a fantale? There goes the real joy...

I am neither a beta tester nor a premium member but I dislike this concept!!!
I agree with you: If I want to look at some kind of art (especially photography) without any explanation about the where, how and why it is taken, I can simply join a zero-information place like flickr.
So dA...thats a pretty bad idea!!

I hate the whole v7 thing. I miss the horizontal menu bars at the top, I think the deviation pages look cluttered and ugly now with those huge previews and the large buttons, and I completely resent the interminable clicks needed to browse dA. v6 is SO much better!

That's sad...and i thought dA won't do something like this, for it is designer driven (take youtube as an example, maybe it wasn't great design but usibality was given, now none of it is there, and I don't want to happen this to dA too..dAmn.)

I'm not a beta tester but my opinion is, that hiding the comment of the artist is the most stupid thing you could possibly do! Come on!
Some pieces of art really aim to tell you a story or send you a message, and if people are that boring that they don't bother to read the story, and they neither want to even have a change of seeing it...
Where is this world going, where is DA going, why can't people use brains even for reading few sentences?
