Description ~ Because 99.87% of animes are.
~ So are some artists who has dark skin
Maybe it's the fear of not getting exposure?
Which is not true.... skill and fanart gives you exposure!

I am not talking about furries or furry artists. I am not talking about race . This is for the artists who creates human characters with medium to dark shades of skin.

I couldn't find one like it, so I had to create one.
Feel free to use this in your journal, just fave it first.

On a side note, when I created Animosity Sonata, their skin choice came after I had the story laid out. Originally their skin was going to be beet red because of the original color scheme [link]
But they're brown now

I enjoy all skin colors on original characters from dark brown to a peach complexion. It gives off the beauty in humans regardless of our differences I skin color. But I enjoy dark skin characters because they give off an exotic feel. In my opinion most people don't know that almost everybody on Earth has dark skin from Native Americans, Polynesians, Melanesians, Indigenous Australians, South Asians, Anadaman Islanders, Sub-Saharan Africans, Micronesians, and Arabs.

What do you mean by "afraid"? You say that as if a dark skinned OC is taboo or something. I have made a couple of human versions of the Equestria Girls (with actual skin tones and hair color BTW) who have dark skin and no one has complained to me about it.

I've always found dark skin to be so beautiful. <3Β

For the longest time, though, I was afraid to make any characters that weren't white, just because I was worried people would call me out on being a white woman who doesn't know anything about the characters she's creating. A lot of that crap went down in the early-mid '00s, but I'm not sure how it is anymore, and I don't really care, haha. My first black character is actually one of my most cherished!Β

I completely understand, for the longest time I was so scared to create characters who weren't of a light skin tone for fear of getting hate. Now for a comic I've created, I tried to make the cast as racially and culturally diverse as I could

This stupidity and you people are cancer. 1. First of all That is the thing you complain about anime? Really? 2. You deliberately phrase this vomit in a dishonest way to make baseless implications. Who said anything about being afraid? Why are you acting like thats what's happening? Because you're full of shit and have to lie to get your point across. 3. If people Are afraid to draw dark skinned portraits, it's Because of insane, racist SJWs like you who attack artists if they don't draw a character "dark enough" and use that as a bullshit way to call those artists racist. 4. Most anime is based in Japan. Therefore, most of the characters are Japanese, to, ya know, fit reality, that place ya'll never visit. 5. You make this stupid post, start it with anime, yet don't even mention the well known and acknowledged social stereotypes that Japan has towards people who have certain hair or skin color.....or the fact that Japanese culture is Still unabashedly very racist......yet retards ignore these negative facts because they're weeaboo faggots and like anime.

I know this is an old stamp, so hee is my opinion.

The problem I had was the fact that I only had black characters. Now I have two that are Hispanic, fraternal twins, brother and sister. One who is Japanese, and five who are white. Two characters who are of mixed race as for black I think about ten to eleven. I was afraid of making white oc's due to being afraid of people calling me an uncle Tom, sell out, or white washed. Coming from predominantly black schools and neighborhoods, anything you do that is out of the ordinary, you will be labled as a black person who came from an all white town :/

Liking music that is not hip-hop or R&B
Watching Anime
Watching movies or shows that are not common with black people.
Being shy, respectful and polite (especially since I am a black girl)

Well that's to name a few but now I draw, whatever I want and listen to whatever I want, not giving a damn who judges me. I just need to work on creating white female ocs
(///β–½///)

I had to re read what I typed, to remember the conversation.

Thanks for the reply! Looking back when I wrote that comment in March, I just realized my insecurities. Though I received a few criticism of my drawings, it was really the lack of facial features I drew on faces. Just like most Anime cartoons with the big eyes, little vertical line for the nose, and a simple horizontal line for the mouth.

Here is a drawing I did 8 years ago:Β xg912.deviantart.com/art/Dead-…

By first glance most people who viewed this drawing thought the characters were Japanese due to the style or White due to the thin nose and lips. I meant cartoon wise of Caucasian features not realistically. Here is what they are:

Male with gun- Black
Female with short hair - Black
Female with dark long hair- Hispanic
Character in the background - White (there were a few people who thought he was girl. lol
Mask guy- White.Β

Sorry for the long reply, I had to sit back and think for a minute on what to say. So now I am practicing on facial features, and I am more open minded with the criticism and compliments. My biggest challenges were drawing Black men with full lips and White males with lips. Pretty much drawing all men with lips, since they ended up looking like women. I'm happy with the improvements but I'm still improving. Β

I dont know if my pixels will help show my improvements but her are the same long hair male and black male from the previous drawing: Β xg912.deviantart.com/art/Chara…

I wouldn't say I'm "Afraid" of creating dark-skinned O.C.'s, but I usually don't because I don't think I portray their mannerisms and culture properly, and also because I know I couldn't get their skin color right if I tried to draw them.

You don't understand how happy this makes me. I'm Filipino and the beauty standards left behind from European colonialism, makes me sad. That we must have light skin. I can't even go on some Asian shopping sights without some fucking super white Asian girl in an ad for whitening products. For a while I hated the skin tone I had, so I bought a lot of that stuff, and added powder to my face to create the illusion that I was fair skinned. But I'm happy I've stopped using it and I'm happy with the skin I have. I used to only draw ocs with light skin but when I got to Hetalia I started coloring with all sorts of shades whether it be fair, tan, or very dark. So again, thank you for this!

Fossorr [2014-02-19 00:13:49 +0000 UTC]

This.
I am dark skin and in the beginning I use to draw alot of light skin OC but then more and more I drew OCs that had my skin tone, general dark skin or similar ethnic traits. Dark skin is really difficult to paint and I love that. Its such a joy to paint it because of its different shades and tones. Now I tend to draw alot of dark skin characters and its so much fun and I prefer it, I still have light skin OC's but dark skin is becoming more common for me.

Sometimes it makes me sad when people make already existing characters lighter in fanart, and even more saddened when I ran into dark skin people who disliked dark skin characters because of the skin. I know of one person who is black and says dark skin is not pretty to draw and they loves lighter skin tones saying its much more pretty and fun to draw. Everyone has a preference in drawing but I couldn't help to look at that person thinking they may have some self hate? I could be wrong but it did rub me the wrong way.

I am not afraid of dark skin tones and currently I'm seeing more and more dark skin OCs and it makes me very happy.
