Description
~ Because 99.87% of animes are.~ So are some artists who has dark skin
Maybe it's the fear of not getting exposure?
Which is not true.... skill and fanart gives you exposure!
I am not talking about furries or furry artists. I am not talking about race . This is for the artists who creates human characters with medium to dark shades of skin.
I couldn't find one like it, so I had to create one.
Feel free to use this in your journal, just fave it first.

On a side note, when I created Animosity Sonata, their skin choice came after I had the story laid out. Originally their skin was going to be beet red because of the original color scheme
But they're brown now

I avoided making dark skinned characters for so long due to not understanding how to color right. I used to be pretty tan myself when I decided to practice.
Now I can't stop making really cute chocolate babies~ ahhhh I LOVE skin tones

I don't see what wrong with NOT having any dark-skinned characters, though. people should be able to make whatever characters they want to.
(that being said I have a lot of dark-skinned ocs... and a lot of unnaturally-colored skinned ocs. I could probably make a rainbow of them =u= )

I choose the skin colour of my OCs fitting to the place they live. Much Sun? Dark skin. Nerdy? Pale skin.
Just like it would be in the real world :33

If they have a natural dark skin colour, yes of couse. X]
But if they have a natural light skin colour and they don't catch much sun, they will stay pale.

I don't really think it's fear that stops people or anything. It's the lack of dark skinned popular characters out there to inspire people to make them. You really only see pale characters in mainstream media thus people are going to go more with what they see and the idea of making darker characters doesn't really cross their mind. (to be honest I never really even thought of creating a ds oc until I saw this stamp lol.)

I wouldn't say anyone is "afraid" of creating dark-skinned OCs? Or any other race?
It's just that sometimes your characters just pop into your head pretty much already created (at least for me) and all you need to do is tweak them a little. If I actually tried to make a dark-skinned character, it would feel incredibly fake and forced. It just wouldn't flow for me. Sure, if the character that comes into my head is dark-skinned, I'll keep them and draw them that way. But I won't go out of my way to make a character that's dark-skinned, because it just feels unnatural to me.

Zadsa In reply to minustwoseventhree [2012-12-31 00:19:49 +0000 UTC]
Poor excuse if you ask me. Also, why should a character's skin color pop into your head already made. My characters take time to develop. Your characters are pale because you are and you don't want to draw darker skinned people, just admit it. Why would creating a character without pale skin feel forced? What a ridiculous comment.

minustwoseventhree In reply to Zadsa [2012-12-31 06:17:59 +0000 UTC]
My characters do take time to make, but basic things like their design are usually done when they come into my head. I then build their personality around that.
Don't want to draw darker skinned people? That explains why I already do draw darker skinned people. Yep. Perfectly. I said it would feel forced to create a darker skinned character just for the sake of it. I already have several dark skinned OCs, so I really don't get your point.
And it would feel forced because I'd be changing an attribute just for the sake of it. Other people may do that, sure, but I just can't. If something is bothering me about them, I'll change it. But changing it for the sake of doing it just doesn't feel right.

it's not that i'm afraid to
(i've actually wanted a darkskinned charrie)
but the thing is, sometimes it's hard not to come up with something stereotypical when making a darkskinned character
even with lighter tones, it can be hard :I

Zadsa In reply to wightravenexperiment [2012-12-31 00:21:19 +0000 UTC]
O RLY.
Do it then, create one. A black character, Indian, Asian or middle eastern person is often tan or dark skinned. Just create a cool personality-- don't think of stereotypes and you'll not abide by them. Imagine if you were a person with dark skin-- would only stereotypes come to mind? I hope not.

You shouldn't be afraid to draw anything. It's okay to be, but there is no need to be. You draw what you want.

I like making dark skinned characters; partly because I have an imaginary friend who's dark skinned. Also, only 1/4 of the world is white so it only makes sense to have other ethnicities.
