Description
~ Because 99.87% of animes are.~ So are some artists who has dark skin
Maybe it's the fear of not getting exposure?
Which is not true.... skill and fanart gives you exposure!
I am not talking about furries or furry artists. I am not talking about race . This is for the artists who creates human characters with medium to dark shades of skin.
I couldn't find one like it, so I had to create one.
Feel free to use this in your journal, just fave it first.

On a side note, when I created Animosity Sonata, their skin choice came after I had the story laid out. Originally their skin was going to be beet red because of the original color scheme
But they're brown now

Well at least you have variety in your characters (even if it is only a little.)
That's good that your not afraid. All I was saying is that the reason behind making diversifying characters was so that people could relate to them. (And that your previous statements about the UK sounded ignorant.)

Most of the OCs I create are dark-skinned, in large part because I tend to gravitate towards darker-skinned cultures (plus black women are hot).

Well it shouldn't be a taboo either. I think it's great that people are, well at least, starting to open up for different skin-colours. Shows how far we've got, or how far we're getting
Surely I've also only seen very few darkskinned OCs in my time, but the few I've seen has been absolutely marvellous Your comic characters included

Of all the Deviant stamps I've seen so far....this one really touched me the most. Thank you for this. It's a real problem here on Deviant Art that most dark-skinned characters are passed over or ignored. Thanks for showing that ALL great, well-thought out characters can come in any color, just like people. Much appreciated.

i totally agree with you. Or they're very stereotypical. (which some people may find funny, but after awhile it gets boring and sometimes very offensive.)

CaribbeanRose9 In reply to The-phoenix-Miya [2011-11-06 01:33:36 +0000 UTC]
Oh I find stereotypes very offensive, it doesn't matter what the stereotype is about..it could be about Black American, Asians, gays, or whatever, it's just ridiculous. I've known many Black Americans growing up in New York, and they can be as smart and educated as anyone else. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the gay lifestyle, I respect it and I've known some cool gays, and they don't act the "stereotype" all the time. So yeah, I agree, it does get boring. I would LOVE to break through the walls people here on Deviant Art and hope to get people to like my characters.

Same here, I'm black myself and I ALWAYS find the stereotypes offensive. Especially when they portray minorities as lesser than the white majority. I mean I know exactly what you mean and where your coming from. And here on deviantArt where you would expect diversity, there isn't a lot of it... and the few random black characters that you see like almost HAVE to be portrayed sexually or ghetto. It's annoying, and NOT true.
Personally I love breaking stereotypes... seeing as most of my main characters are black and female (you don't see to many black female characters either.)

No, there isn't a lot of Black or ethnic female characters, here or on established comics and books, but hopefully that will change. In my stories, I just wanted to reflect what I grew up with since coming to New York from my country when I was about 5 years old. I know it won't be easy, but...I really want to break through into the literary world and share what I know.

So true, I have SO many story ideas and most of them are written down at home in journals. Most of my stories revolve around a heroin or a group of heroes. I enjoy writing fantasy stories, and personally I really don't like when authors create stories like this [link]
It bugs the crap out of me. I mean, I may enjoy the book... but at the end I'm all like "why the monochrome casting." It's kinda frustrating. I mean, personally I grew up in an "all" white community with scatters of minorities here and there. So when I look for books sometimes I really want a character that I can relate too... and sometimes I can't find that and its kinda sad.

Uh, I don't know, maybe they just don't want a dark coloured O.C? It's not racist. I probably missed the point or something, but I can't imagine people being -afraid- of having dark skinned characters.
But I do see what you mean, although I do not watch anime that often.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
The-phoenix-Miya In reply to Gooey-brains [2011-11-05 23:22:01 +0000 UTC]
It's not about being racist, its about misrepresentation. When people do stories where there is NO diversity (and everyone in the story is ALL white) it gives the reader the feel that the story is based in an "all white universe." And that if there are colored people they don't matter.
Also, it's also about stereotypes. The negative stereotypes that come with being darker skinned are often portrayed with these characters. And while some people think this may be funny to have the "ghetto black girl" or the "gangster black guy" its highly offensive to people of this race.
Here, this might help you of I'm not making any sense. [link]

Oh God, I couldn't agree more!
I'm also not afraid to make a brown, black, green, purple, yellow, tan, orange, blue, pink, or crimson colored original character!
It has nothing to do with race, it's just nice to see a variety of skin tones, you know what I'm sayin'?
But anyways, such an awesome stamp!

I love the stamp. I was hoping to have someone have a club like it something but i guess that would come off as racist.
But its not that anime is scared to draw people of color...its that they are all based on Japanese people and the majority of them are pale. there a lot of anime where u will find dark skinned characters.

To be fair, pink eyes and blue hair isn't Japanese, LOL. Animes white wash and bleach A LOT. I mean, I like Anime, but "they're Japanese!" is not a valid excuse when the character clearly aren't.

Yeah but they add blonde hair
characters on there too, and almost all
of them the characters have big eyes. I don't remember seeing Japanese
people with big eyes or blonde hair
But you're right, there are some that does, but not many.
Oh there are plenty of dark skinned groups,
if you go on my main page above the comments there
should be some in that list

Vitriolic-Harli In reply to Aivilo0 [2011-10-14 02:53:57 +0000 UTC]
lol majority of the blonde blue eye comes from their history of collaboration with germany and france who during the times of collaboration had blue eyes and blond hair. It just kind blended into the culture.
Actually, with what they get of us, i'm scared to see their interpretation of an actual black character or someone of darker color considering all they get of us is the minstream stuff like rap vids and the like.
Sorry for seeming like a know it all. it was one of those things i studied. would you believe there's actually books on the history of anime?
also thank you, i will look into that now. I have a lot of black and colored OCs. I think you are right, i think most people are scared to have dark skinned oc's cause of popularity issues.

Oh no you're not acting like a know it all.
I actually like healthy debates lol. I've seen about 2 black
characters that looked pretty decent created from Japan(non stereotypical too).
But I was just talking about dark skin as a whole,
not race. Their ancestors are also African, since
everyone originated from there, sooo, they have no
excuse :\

lol years of isolation make them go nuts if anyone tries to tell them that they are anything BUT Japanese. I blame it on them being stuck on an island for the majority of their history.
