Description
~ Because 99.87% of animes are.~ So are some artists who has dark skin
Maybe it's the fear of not getting exposure?
Which is not true.... skill and fanart gives you exposure!
I am not talking about furries or furry artists. I am not talking about race . This is for the artists who creates human characters with medium to dark shades of skin.
I couldn't find one like it, so I had to create one.
Feel free to use this in your journal, just fave it first.

On a side note, when I created Animosity Sonata, their skin choice came after I had the story laid out. Originally their skin was going to be beet red because of the original color scheme
But they're brown now

Yes, there is no excuse. Its just as stupid as saying 'There are no Japanese people in the US' or something like that. Chances are, where ever you are, you're going to meet people of any race. That's the way the world has gotten and that's not a BAD thing. I just wish people would be more open to this. Its not like adding a variety of characters is a bad thing, especially when they're written well. It makes things more entertaining and interesting.

I draw animal O.C's but I have drawn them human- and I usually go for making them whatever nationality their country of origin has.

True still. Though I will say there's nothing wrong with O.Cs of different races, it makes for interesting storytelling.

I love this! I get so tired of seeing these pale ass, bland, lame characters. It gets really annoying. Not to sound racist but black characters appeal more to me because they are so rare.

yay, glad someone agrees. there arent't many black or darker skinned characters out there. and if they are they're all usually very stereotyped.

Well... in fact, many Japanese anime fans say that there are too few dark skin characters...

btw "I am NOT afraid of Dark Skinned O. C's." is a very important expression.
In fact, I am afraid that readers regard me as a racist when I write the story of dark skinned O. C's.
Because I have no idea about expression for dark skin which I chose...

we just need more positive cartoons/anime that show people
of color in a non-stereotypical way. We don't need anymore
that shows us as buffoons

The Otaku community won't even admit Yoruichi is Black that's all the proof that I need that there is something more then lack of interest or lack of exposure.
@Sparkiex also points out part of the mentality that anti-black. I respect that she doesn't feel the need to create diversity so not to alienate any of her potential fans but the fact that she felt like she had to state her "opinion" even though she could of just said nothing as this wasn't a attack against her or anything. Yet she wanted us to know that she isn't afraid of making Dark Skinned O.C just has a strong objection to doing it because she feels it's unimportant. To her predominately white means completely white and there is no such thing as a Black British person and the thought of making such a character is politically correct bullshit.
Fact of the matter Sparkiex represent the vast majority of white creators who if they do create "Black characters" make them stereotypical in order to stress their "Blackness".
It's a real small minority of artist and authors that make great characters that just happened to be Black. Everyone else makes the Killer Bees, Chocolove, and Luke Cage.
I don't have anything to say to non-blacks when it comes to representing Blacks but if your part of the African diaspora and your stories are about Asian/White people with no other type of real diversity then you have sold out.
I get glossy eyed when I have to look at the work of a Black artist that make mangas/comics that has no real characters of colors or worst just one black person in a all Asian or white setting.
We have to create our own heroes because no one else wants to too and most of them have a strong objection too it. Being Colorblind is only preached when we are being told to be colorblind about the lack of Black positive characters. The world certainly isn't colorblind and racism is very present even if no one wants to openly admit it.

I would, but I don't believe there is a legitimate desire to understand. if she's from britain, than she should know about the movie "attack the block" where all the main characters died except for the hero, a white boy, and a mulatto. same thing, except in britain.

I'm not afraid! It's just that the fandoms I'm in are predominantly white, most of the time. XD When the universe allows, I'm totally fine with creating a dark-skinned character. Actually, the original story I'm working on has a cast that is all multiracial, so they have a variety of lovely skin tones.

I don't think a lot of people are like, afraid of it.
I don't have any darker skinned OCs because well, I don't want one? I'm not racist or anything, it's just that I don't want one because most of my characters are British or come from another country that's predominately white, or I don't have a character that in my head, was darker skinned.

The-phoenix-Miya In reply to Sparkiex [2011-11-05 23:11:46 +0000 UTC]
With the immigration rate from arab countries (and other nations) there is a high number of immigrants. Just because a country is "predominantly" white doesn't mean that everyone there is white and UK itself is a very diverse as a community.
The whole point of making diverse characters is to appeal to other audiences. To me what you said sounds partially ignorant because it sounds like your saying that there are no people of color (or that aren't white) in the UK when in fact there are. (I'm referencing to this statement that you said. Quote- " it's just that I don't want one because most of my characters are British"
π: 0 β©: 1
Sparkiex In reply to The-phoenix-Miya [2011-11-06 12:57:28 +0000 UTC]
Um, yeah, I know that?
I'm from Scotland. Scotland is in the UK. However, most of my characters are white. WOAH, I'M SO RACIST.
Actually, not really.
Appeal to other audiences? If my characters' race is that big of a problem, so much that people don't like them because they're white, I don't want them paying any notice to them. I make characters for myself, I don't give a fuck if some African American doesn't look at my stuff because they aren't black.
π: 0 β©: 2
The-phoenix-Miya In reply to Sparkiex [2011-11-06 22:06:42 +0000 UTC]
I know where Scotland is, I'm not dumb. I was just wanted to point out that the way you were presenting yourself (and still are) sounds ignorant. (And no one called you racist, except yourself. -_-)
Yes, appeal to other audiences. Not everyone in the world is white or fair skinned for that matter. People want characters that they can RELATE to. BOTH physically and emotionally. If your characters don't do that, people don't read your stories. (And I'm not just talking about black people, I mean ALL races in general.) As an author or artist I would expect you to know this, but apparently I was wrong.
Oh, and I'm guessing that ALL your stories all fit into this trope perfectly, [link]
And this is why this stamp was created in the first place, for people who act like you.
π: 0 β©: 1
Sparkiex In reply to The-phoenix-Miya [2011-11-06 22:12:45 +0000 UTC]
Who act like me? Really, now? So I'm afraid of creating characters of different races. Nope.
All I'm trying to say is that although I don't have any black characters, it doesn't mean I'm "afraid" of creating some. I won't create a character for the sole purpose of them being black, nor will I change a character just to make them black. I create stories around characters. If the character is White/Asian/Black or anything else for that matter when I think of them, they'll stay that way. I actually do have Asian characters, and Native American characters. Not many, but it doesn't mean I'm afraid of creating them.
