Description On 15th November, 2016, Clara Amalia, the wife of James, Prince of Wales, died peacefully at Birkhall , the official residence for the couple, at the age of 67. She had been ill for quite some time. The official cause of death was a stroke, with Left-Side Heart Failure being a contributing factor. Her family were by her side, James being reportedly devastated by the loss, as they had been married for fifty-one years by that point. The news of her passing was made public minutes later, with outpouring of grief being noticeable across the kingdom.

On November 18th, the casket bearing the remains of Clara was taken to Westminster Hall to lay in state. During the laying in state, an estimated 1 million people filed past the casket, all paying their respect to the most beloved Princess since Diana. A couple of days later, the casket was taken to St. George's Chapel, with a family service was held. James, in a wheelchair due to a fall weeks prior, gently patted the casket, and gave it a simple kiss, a moving act of love. Then, with all watching, the casket was lowered to the temporary vault. James would follow Clara in death ten years later.
