What a work of art!! The fire.. has me curious. to me, it is like the fire within him, his courage, strength, just ignited. If you know what I mean? the ravens seem like, something dark or black in his soul that he is trying to escape, because they have been hurting him, drowning him...
...
Well, that is how I see it.

It looks to me like.. well, could be a few things, the first is a general interpretation: That he has evil inside him and he knows this, it is trying to escape and so he must steel himself in order to hold it in. Thus it is like a prison coming from within, he cannot be free of it. My own personal interpretation is different.. when I see crows I see freedom, intelligence, independence and playfulness. So when he has crows around him and black feathers of a crow on him I see that he is becoming free. His freedom is coming from within. So totally opposite

I really thought this was homestuck at first. Still good, of course.

Ravens and wolf; surely Norse mythology - perhaps the fiery apotheosis of the dreaded Fenriswolf at the hands of a vengeful Odin?
Splendid illustration, though - very powerful indeed.

Thank you so much! When I painted it, I didn't think of the Norse mythology but it makes me think of it a lot now, seeing the comments and mentions about it. It#s funny where our minds can lead us when we feel inspired to do something.

Quite so - perhaps the powerful action of the subconscious on creativity.
It's a tremendously powerful piece; you clearly have great talent - and are applying it wisely. Long may you continue to do so!

Similar themes are quite widespread throughout the circumpolar cultures, one does not have to thing of "Norse mythology" alone, but it's the most well-known one (or at least we like to think so). But it's true you could hardly paint anything more "Odinous" than this, without making the parallels undeniable.
Claws and beaks, fur and feather, fire and smoke. This is seidhr manifested.
Instant fav btw

Simply breathtaking. It's like the crows and the wolf are stuck together, but they are ripping each other apart at the same time. I get the feeling that they all need to get away but not necessarily from each other. The detail you put into the piece is just amazing.

I'm not sure my english teacher would be too happy about using it this way, when you directly adress the specific person in question. Is it an official standard or is it more of a colloquial way of speaking?

SabreBash In reply to Ratshaman [2013-05-08 09:18:19 +0000 UTC]
No, it's slang that i think originally dates back to the 1950s or so. Originally it did just mean male subjects, but like how "dudette" has fallen out of fashion in favor of the agendered "dude," it has lost its gendered connotation.
I believe it is a corruption of the older "my good man," and similar phrases.
This is just my guess.

Sorry, I often use the second translation of the name, I'm more used to seeing it. Either way, it does remind you of it.
