Description
The common mudpuppy! Mudpuppies are nocturnal salamanders that never lose their gills, and live in the lakes and streams of North America. Their name comes from the fact that theyβre one of the few salamanders that can vocalize- a squeaky sound that I suppose sounded dog-like to someone lol.
Once again the title comes from the animal's scientific name: Necturus maculosus means, roughly, "swimming-tail" and "spotted".
