hehe, well I've taken to building important rooms and sets in free 3d modling programs.  Cut down on a lot of time.  They are just home remodling things.
That's how I've been learning to do backgrounds as well, just watching how other people do it.

What kind of 3D programs are there out there that are free? I wouldn't mind doing something like that with my characters rooms!

As it is I already made their house in The Sims 4 but that game doesn't have as much items to actually decorate the the house or the rooms in the house the way I would want it to look as my characters rooms. The only thing it does cut down on time in drawing the layout of the actual house in my drawings

Well, first off, do you use a computer or a tablet to draw on?  
I have a samsung galaxy note pro 12, so mostly I use mobile apps. 

One is Home Design 3D en.homedesign3d.net/
(they only give you an hour to mess around and save your project before you have to purchase, which I have not done XD)  But it allows you to manipulate furniture, make it taller, shorter, wider narrower and play with the colors.  Nice because if you do a screen print and import it to a drawing program, the different furniture colors make it easy to tell what you are lining.  
The other one I've started to use is Planner 5d planner5d.com/
Once again, the free version is a bit limited, but has suited my needs for now.  It doesn't allow for the manipulation of furniture and it's color, but it's still easy to use.  Also, you can create as many projects as you want in the free version.  So that's nice.  
It's the one I used for the background in this strip: The Mists Morning Ritual Part II (otp drawing)

If you are using a computer, I know a lot of artists like using Google's Sketchup www.sketchup.com/
It's free!  And extremely capable.  
Takes a little getting used to, but there are a lot of tutorials and videos to learn from.  You can even make your own furniture and specialty items/buildings (so literally unlimited possibilities) as well as download basses to work with (Like rooms and basic furniture).  I think you can also put in human figures in the middle of the room to if ya want character perspective references.

I use a computer the only thing I have is a light table to trace if I ever have to make the same background more than once I also use my light table to make movie animation clips

But wow awesome I'm going to totally check all this out for the computer! Though maybe I should get a tablet however when I tried one once and it's a lot more difficult than I would have liked... I'm a traditional artist I'm used to just pencil and paper and scanning it onto the computer XD

I used to do a lot of that.  If I have a longer project in the works, I will still sketch it out traditionally.  Like this Sketch  
before digitizing it.  Light tables are pretty useful things.  
Ohh, you made animated clips?  Do you have any online?

The tablet I use isn't an artist tablet.  Just a good quality, multi purpose, mobile device with a $5 drawing app (autodesk sketchbook).  It's really easy to use, (almost like drawing traditionally on a sketchbook), and has fare more features than one would expect from a mobile device.  From what I understand, the new Samsung tablets are compatible with the wacom bamboo stylus pen.  So more pen tip pressure sensitivity than the earlier models, like mine.  But you don't have to be connected to a computer to draw, and that's really nice. 
The advantage of the one's that hook up to your computer is that the programs are more powerful, you can save in professional file formats, and you can have larger sizes and with higher resolutions.  The tablet system takes a little getting used to, and the drawing programs are a more complicated.  But you can do a lot with them.  (I took a graphic design course, so I had an opportunity to play with some of the equipment.) 
It was nice, but, I have what I want/need with my tablet.

XD yeah it is, I've got the characters sketched out and drawn, but ugh, I don't know why I go overboard with details....  Backgrounds... and making things longer than nececary XD

They can work pretty nicely provided they can suport the pen.  XD I was doing digital drawings for two years before I took the class.  Did this thing fav.me/d9zu7li
(Only like the look of Razen's face in it, Alistar somehow looks like a horse... not cool, and Lilly looks...off,  I like my usual work more *shrugs*)
The bigest difrence between digital drawing and traditional is that digital drawing has a bunch of weird names for things.  There are plenty of keys and tutorials for that!  My favorite part of any program are the simple features of fliping the canvas, pen sensitivity and multipul layers~  But my apps taught me a lot about doing digital drawing, and it was suprising how much was translatable to the "professional" programs.
