New International VersionFor the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
New Living Translation
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

they can't stay and listen because of a lot of things that isn't just video games, social media, or other things. Some have jobs to fufill and others have possible family matters to attend to. A lot of people honestly don't have the time to do much of anything anymore.
Plus, it's true that people will only hear to what they want to hear most of the time, but that is with any group of people, regardless of religon or culture.
